I've been a Fallout fan almost all my life, or to be honest since I discovered the first game (almost) by accident and gave it a shot. I learned a lot practising english thanks to it.
Well, since the success Fallout had with me, it came the turn of Fallout 2. SUCCEDED AS WELL!!! But I've kept playing the game from time to time since then, and my heart forced me to share a couple of things I've come to recently.
I'm playing Fallout 2 with the 1.02e patch (must be USA version since there are children) in a super machine with Windows 7 Ultimate x64. The normal screen resolution I have for desktop is 1680 x 1050. I tried to play as I would have like in Windows 98/XP but screen was very big and some details didn't "fit"... not to mention the colors mesh that just from the installation screen made it looked like shit. I came to fix that perfecly after instalation with the help of the Hi Res patch I found here. Fine. But since then, I came to a few minor bugs that I didn't have under 98/XP times. Here we go:
- In some random encounters, I ALWAYS find just one bastard that "refuses" to take the same reasonable ammount of damage as normal. For example, I find some deathclaws and they receive hits for 45 to 110. Well there's always one that won't take more than 7 to 18. A TOUGH ONE! YAYY!!!
- Miniguns won't hurt mutants, centaurs, floaters or aliens, no matter what kind of ammo are they carrying (unless you go for a critical).
- Sometimes, when saving a game in battle having action points in reserve, the game will load ignoring them and skiping to enemies turn like if you hadn't any left. DISGUSTING!
- Chris at the Navarro gas station won't believe you if you tell him you wanna join the Enclave, no matter how smart you are, 300% in all stats, all 10 in S.P.E.C.I.A.L., the armor you are wearing, if you come with company or not, or if you come with your car or on foot.
- A car bug (yeah, still). Tried to exit a town on foot, but I appear in the car at the world map (the engine turn doesn't sound). I travel and the fuel goes down as "normal", but as soon as I reach any location, the car has gone for good from the entire game. SURPRISE!!!
- Lucky thing I bought ammo like crazy from the very beginning, because from some point in the game, merchants stop restocking. Well, merchants and everybody else, because no one have even a damn stimpack. THIS JUST GETS BETTER!!!
- For some reason, sometimes you can eliminate a target with a critical of less than it's total ammount of hitpoints. YEEEAAHH, boxing at New Reno or fighting at San Francisco ring was easier than EVER, fucking those guys with criticals of 10 hit points only.
- Travelling won't restore your hit points at a normal rate like before, so you can travel from Modoc to San Francisco and find out that you only restored 2 or 4 hit points. Also the radiation taken can wear off, leaving you "healthier" making you wonder what was the magic trick XDD
And that's all for now. Maybe I left something behind but that's about all I can tell by now. If you guys feel identified don't hessitate to share your experience.
Finally, I would like to suggest merging the High Resolution mod with the Fallout 2 Restoration Proyect. It's worth a while, and you'll "see" the difference.
Thanks for reading and sorry about this whole text. Vault City prevails, citizens XDD
