Sonny, I Watched the Vault Bein' Built!
Civ 3:

interesting and fun, have serious problems on the harder levels. nice to waste a few hrs... i had one game i went for military victory and won in 14.5 hrs... every time i try to win via space race i crash when i do the launch... 7 out of 10.

War3:

stands true to the history, harder levels are pretty hard. cheats make it fun though i cant play 1v1 even vs easy computer cuz it just rushes me. 7 out of 10.

Warhammer 40k Dawn of War:

makes warcraft 3 play like your grandmas warcraft. hella fun, pretty balanced and very kickass game. 9.5 out of 10.

Star Wars Battlefront 2:

fun but the dogfights are damn hard. very interesting game-play. i just cant seem to keep the jedi's you get when you almost finished with a mission alive... 8 out of 10.

Dragonshard:

another very interesting game. very fun albeit pretty difficult on some levels. much better than warcraft 3 also. 8.5 out of 10.

Hah, another person like me, getting all the games when they're cheap.

I actually just got warhammer 40k as well and have had a great time with it. Something about the game just makes it feel like war and whew, the action can be very intense.

I'm interested in Star Wars Battlefront 2, my brother and I have had some good bouts on the first one. Have you tried it online yet?

The best Civilization kind of game was MOM.(Master of Magic) It has true kind of strategy element in the battles, not not the kind that if you trow enough men you'll win.

I agree that Warhammer 40k: DoW pwned WC 3. The action is so intense, I almost wet my diaper eh pants.

Dragonshard is.. well.. only a so-so okie STG game with D&D element.

And I thought Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri is the best turn-based STG civilization game :?:

not online... i havent even finished it yet. i keep putting it down to play warhammer 40k... i heard the winter assault add-on threw balance way out of the window so i dont think ill get that. the space battles just are too hard for me to control... i need to find the inverse mouse function and turn it off... when i move the ball up i am used to going up not down...

that old saw? i download it at least 2 times a year from abandonware sites because its just a cool ass game and plays so well. enjoyable but non-purchaseable.

You should try civ 4, it is superior.
----------------

everyone says civ 4 is too much like sim-city. since sim-city 2 it just hasnt been very interesting game for me. plus the economy and tactics to play the game are way out of whack. im just not a civ fan.

i think the duality and how it can evolve the classes rock. although there is a bug i have found... build 4 buildings together, level to 5, then tear down 3 of them and you are still going to train level 5 chars... then if you say upgraded the archers in another plot to level 5, build the archers guild with the other single plot turning out level 5 say clerics... same plot turning out level 5 clerics and archers. then in the other 2 plots put up the hp bonus and say the damage bonus monuments...

see what i mean?

Spam anyone?
Don't post absolutely useless and unfunny messages.

That said, TheWesDude, using the quote function would make your post a lot more readable.

Meh, Civ3, its main problem was the ridiculous corruption. ' Gee let's found a new city in a lush area with plenty of people. How long will it take to build a puny warrior....eh? 10 turns? 1 shield per turn and 9 lost to corruption?'

Oh I hated that SO much...I remember I barely played the game more than a week...

Sincerely,

Does anyone have the warhammer expansion? I was thinking of getting it but maybe not if it sucks...

And I don't know, I enjoyed civilization 3 for a time, and then asked myself why play that when Alpha centauri was still much better.

I just looked up dragonshard... what games are similar to that one? It looks good but I'm kinda leery.

I can tell Civ 3 would simulate Croatia rather poorly. Here 10 out of 10 shields are lost to corruption.

Silly rabbit, Croatia doesn't even have any production to begin with.

And if they did have any shields, I guess they'd sooner use them to bludgeon some ethnic or religious minority to death.

i mostly respond to the point by point basis... plus its much more work to open in a new window, copy the quoted portion, then paste in the quick reply window... i just do everything in the quick reply window... much faster for me... personal preference...

from everything i have seen, it completely kills any form of balance. completely unbalances the different races.

its an RTS with some twists... very interesting too. 3 resources, XP, gold, dragonshards... dragons shards replenish over time once a certian amount are harvested... gold generates more buildings you own plus you can get some by going to the underworld with your units. experience you get by killing things and determines how many levels you can pump up yer units.

interesting mechanics.

My personal preference, WesDude, would be that you suck it up, and do it the way that people ask, as a courtesy. It's hard as fuck to read right now.

TheWesDude, I do everything from the quick reply as well. This has nothing to do with the quote function.
Look, I'll give you a short tutorial, here's how it works:

That's how making a quote works. There's nothing difficult with it, and it doesn't mean you have to go to 'incredible' lengths to do this.
Now please, for all our sake, go use the quote function.

You are absolutely right there. It was pretty ridiculous. I absolutely LOVE the system they came up with in civ 4 in comparison.

Maybe Civilization 3 was a bold experiment in the human psyche and its responses to power?

Oh, and how a spearman can kill a Panzer. I still wonder how he pulled that off.

only way i could see a spearman killing a panzer is if the panzer was almost dead...

but in civ3 my big problem was jets and bombing runs... they just dont seem very useful. the cruise missles were very cool though.
