Navy in fallout

This is making me want a fallout hawaii. Overall, searching for island resources probably would be a bit of a stretch, but I can certainly see the NCR using ship to go up north or south from California. Why just expand outward towards the desert and mountains? Will they have a fully fledged navy, primed to retake America? No, probably not. Certainly they'll have people scouting out areas, and watching from the coast and such. Possibly some trading merchants along the coasts. Pirates though, I'm not too sure of. I'd personally see merchant ships just having guards like a caravan, not even ships for them though. Ship to ship combat probably won't be cannons firing off, but gun battles and a lot of boarding.

I was referring to the pre-war era.
yea, but i was talking about possible navy in fallout, to support my claim, i mentioned that countries with also small population in our timeline can field navies, in some form. i wasnt exclusively talking about todays navies, i rather pointed at fact that all nations have navy in this or that form, even if it is small fleet of patrol boats.

Comparing legitimate nations and fictional post-apocalyptic governments to one another isn't fair, I doubt the Czech Republic would've had a navy if there were no boarding nations.

probably. it was just to show that even such nation had several patrol boats that could make together atleast one units of 5-6 vessels. that could patrol waters 1-2km from shore. so it would make sense that NCR, biggest industrial and most populous nation around would field SOME navy, be it few "fleets" of patrol boats, to protect trade routes and whatnot. it would help with expansion along the west coast too, by easy resupplying of units and cities. it should be simpler than outfitting every single caravan with guards. naval routes were always chapest way to transport supplies and men. my main concern is what form would the navy have. would they get their hands on some frigate or destroyer, repair it and use it as lets say artillery support? it could also be damn safe ship, because all raiders would be wiped, if they would still have main armament. so it would be very safe transport. all theory. the more opinions on this the better.

In my imaginary thought, the pre-war U.S Navy ship would look like 40' warship with lots of gun and retrofuturistic decor, imagine a heli-carrier looking ship and for the post-war ship, the more common ship would be the steam ship like the Duchess Gambit in point lookout,and/or coal ship if the post war population relearn how to mine coal, because its quite easy to maintain...and i dont think nuclear fission would be a fuel for a ship, because its better for ammunition or a electricity source and NCR would be more interested on expanding their land territories first than Reqonquering the ocean and they will only use ship/boat for food source..if the fish didnt went extinct
