need help in fallout 2

I'm not sure if the spear sharpening is limited by anything, possibly intelligence or perception - I'm just guessing now, the thing is that you notice that his spear "is a little different", your character does, he says it in dialogue.
Anyway, you're really getting detail-oriented now, worrying about flint for a spear that you will only barely use :D

As for the stats exactly, it's role-play, like I said, ANY combination of stats will let you finish the game, and some people (me included) have had considerable fun trying to beat it with Intelligence 1, for example (this basically renders you a litteral retard, and still (barely) able to save the world!)

Also, FO2 is made for replays, so, just put together a character build that is "sortof you" and play through it - and don't get too upset if quests dont work out ideally. It *is* roleplay, so unless you have a good save-file to resque you, just add it to your character's history. In my first playthrough I managed to cause a complete and utter tragedy, arguably one of the worst quest-resolutions in the game... and ever since, I always solved this quest so... correctly... and ever since I always miss that feeling, of having inadvertedly caused such a tragedy :D

You need Perception 6 to notice that his spear is sharpened.

Here's a suggestion for a newbie character that can do most of the things in the game with ease.

Tag skills: Small Guns, Speech, Lockpick

Traits: Gifted (cheating), Bloody mess (fast shot if you don't want to go for crits, finesse if you really want to rely on crits)

SPECIAL
STR: 4
PER: 8
END: 6
CHA: 6
INT: 8
AGI: 8
LUC: 7

Perks to take: Awareness, Toughness, Better Criticals, Bonus rate of fire, Action Boy, more criticals, bonus move.

I'd probably go END 4 and skip toughness, and instead go either AGI or INT 10 and live with dying a bit more. Or raise luck even higher, go finesse and have a 19% base critical hit chance, then do aimed shots to the eyes at point blank range, until small guns is high enough to do it at range.

If you're concerned about the temple of trials with so low unarmed skill, this guy will talk his way past Cameron and can kite the ants and scorpions by punching or kicking once and running 5 tiles away before endind his turn.

as for cameron, i always figured that due to having higher charisma allowed me to get past him without fighting him, i dont think i always tagged the speech skill, so i was never completely sure how much was charisma or speech based.

i knew perception could affect me in other ways, i know that it allows me to see the traps in the temple, it i wanted to could i disarm every trap in there, provided i have the trap skill tagged at character creation and the SPECIAL skills needed to see the traps?

With enough perception you probably wouldn't need to tag traps, which would be a pretty terrible choice for a tag skill in the rest of the game. You can try again until you disarm but it's often not really worth the 25xp per plate.

Cameron can be talked out of fighting with INT above 4 and speech tagged, the skill % doesn't matter in that case according to wikia.

hmmm. i have had to fight him before and i never got the option to talk him out of it, i think my int was around 5.

You have to have the speech skill tagged. The speech skill and charisma ARE NOT dump stats in this game. They have changed the way I played the game for my characters. I mean if your guy is a strong unarmed fighter then no worries, but if not I recommend Int 5 and the speech skill tagged. Due to the fact if your character is weak in combat you want to make him good at speaking and agility. Agility to run away and speech to talk your way out of things. Just my five cents.

Just from my experience, but I usually put more points in Intelligence, Perception, and Charisma. That allows me to do what I need to do with few problems. Speech is always tagged in my games. I don't put much over 50 points in Steal since you can savescum if required. Steal is incredibly useful if you know how to use it. Can't say I've used Sneak too often. I usually pick up as many of the companions as possible, so I take Magnetic Personality as a perk when the mood suits me.

I don't do a lot of combat in the Temple of Trials, usually using the patented hit-them-then-retreat strategy since my Melee/Unarmed is often underdeveloped. I also don't waste points in Energy or Big Guns until late in the game. Repair, Science, and Lockpick are my go to skills in handling most problems aside from killing things of course. Doctor is nice to have, but I have rarely used it in my latest game. First Aid is useful for extra XP, so I put points in it when necessary. Throwing is not worth messing with unless you really want that skill set. I just throw grenades in Marcus's inventory as long as I have a save file to fall back on in case he blows me up. That should be something you get used to - I have well over 30 saves in my latest game.

Redding is best skipped early on. Wait until Level 10. Understand that you aren't meant to complete all the quests in areas as soon as you get to them. Many locations (most) aren't even important to the main quest, allowing you to skip them entirely. Outdoorsman should be considered to avoid punishing random encounters. I usually make it a point to see all of the Special Encounters in the game, so taking the appropriate perks and skills is vital for that.

Knowing what weapons to use is also a must. You don't want to be using 44. bullets halfway through the game. You need to know what weapons have the most stopping power against the endgame enemies. Power Armor is godly in Fallout 1 and 2. Take the bridgekeeper's robes and the .223 pistol in the Special Encounter for an early head start. Getting the Highwayman is a pretty important step in most of my games.

Listen to everything Dead Guy says. He knows his Fallout metagaming. Don't Tag worthless skills. Take your time. Save a lot. Think hard on making your character. If you cut your teeth on low grade "RPG's" the old Fallout games are a different beast. You can't go in half cocked expecting to complete all the content. You can fail miserably in the old games if you don't know what you are doing. Think hard before venturing out into the wastes, or back and forth between towns - Some quests are time sensitive, like the ones in Modoc for the Skags, or Vault City and the Villagers.

Good luck.

yea, i am noticing that fallout 1 and 2 is a TON harder than games like skyrim, fallout 3, etc. even though the current fallouts keep a lot of the basic setups of the first 2 games, it is NOWHERE near as punishing w/ fighthing hordes of monsters that can KO you quickly or needing the right skills to make certain things available in the game.

yea. btw, i got the killap patch installed for fallout 2, along w/ the hi-res patches for both fallout 1 and 2. is there a good patch like the killap patch for fallout 1? i hear there are plenty bugs in it, i got the 1.1 version for fallout 1 on my disc, and 1.02 for fallout 2.

There is a patch for Fallout 1 that takes out most if not all bugs. And get the restoration project for Fallout 1! So many endings cannot be done due to cut quests and characters. Also it adds lot's of extra stuff. Did you know that the Iguana man (forgot his name) had a quest where you find out his meat may not be iguana at all... while the quest was cut you can still see remnants of it.

i actually just found that quest. in junk town you visit the hospital, go down stairs talk to the midget, when you get to the hub, you find bob, and tell him about the dubious ingredients, and you get the option to bribe him.

something like that, i heard that the killap patch did the restoration thing and fixed the bugs, if anyone else can vouch for the patch i will check it out.

When was that cut? You not only find out; (and can get killed for learning of it), but the PC can continuously blackmail Iguanna Bob to keep his secret. Was there once more to it that?

*Ah... so that was just the remnants of it. I see that I should play the game through yet again.

Told ya. Hmm I wonder if I could make a mod that adds quests, characters and more guns...

oh yea. it has the scorpions, making the antidote and saving tandi right? what i think is odd is that it seems as though tandi should be able to travel with you as she hates shady sands. was that an option that got removed or can she join you if you have the right stat?
