ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

GODDAMN ELECTRICAL COMPANIES.

Thanks, I live in Arlington, TX. We had a pretty massive thunderstorm hit my area on Tuesday night (including a tornado about two miless away). Power went out around 9:00pm.

Here it is Friday morning, and we still don't have power. Everything in the fridge is gone (naturally we went to the store on Monday and stocked up).

Apparently we've had 500,000 folks without power, and the local electric company had to call crews in from Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisana to help with the restoration.

Texas+June-electricity=no air conditioning.

I know, I know, bitch, bitch, bitch, whine, whine, whine.

Thank you for your patience.

Heh, just wait until the heat of summer when the power grids are overloaded and black/brownouts start occuring over the entire nation.

Hey, if someone in your family dies from overheating, you can sue the company!

Makes me glad i'm in the UK.

But then I hate the UK so i'm screwed either way. :(

I'm hoping it gets fixed.

Yeah, fortunately, at most of the times we don't have problems with the grid going down to brown/blackouts like they do in California.

What we're seeing now is that alot of this could have been avoided, if the company had gone to the trouble of trimming back all the trees and crap from the lines, which some folks have asked for 2-3 years to have done.

The wife is at home now, chucking out a couple of hundred dollars worth of food.

Maybe I can entice her that actually buying a generator might be a good idea.

They do seem to. What was the deal with that huge blackout last year? Didn't the whole East (or was it the West?) coast go out? No decent companies would have allowed that to happen.

Why? What's wrong with the UK?
Plus, if you don't like it, then leave.
Just saying.

Yeah, I'd like to know how anyone can browse the internet without using a desktop computer...

Yeah, they investigated that, and traced the problem to this relay station or something in Canada. No joke. The damn Canadians were to blame.

From what I heard in the news it was on the american end and they just blamed the canadians.
*edit* Bored at work, here's the link.

That's what happens when electro-energetic system is no longer state-owned. In the interest of maximum profit, electrical companies build an inadequate grid that is prone to overload or malfunction often. Thanks to worldwide unification of electrical systems (for example, electric grids of pretty much all European countries are connected into one gigantic grid), a power failure in one city usually means half the world loses electricity. Don't worry, what we've seen so far is just tip of the iceberg. Problems with electricity will become much more frequent in the future.

A bold statement, considering that European electro-energetic system suffers from similar problems.

It's just so busy and congested. Public transport sucks. Governemt sucks
(Well, Blair does)

-Though not as much as SOME countries *COUGH*

I just don't like this place anymore. I'm getting my master's and leavin lol. Hopefully. Well, Outta london at least.

We had are own terrible problem with communications. When the telephones went out no-one could ring the hospital emergency department. In the country the power always goes out in big storms but the government doesn't listen to complaints because of the small population. Therefore if you don't like crowds, immigrate to Australia. England isn't that bad but the weather is depressing.

It was America. I remember being very relieved when I found out that the problem in the grid didn't originate in Canada - otherwise you guys would have been pissed off... and we're the smaller power. ;)
