Need to vent.

Ratty, belgian powercompanies are also in corporate hands indeed, but we keep them on a short leech

and no, we never had ANY powerproblems since i could remember ... (there was one occasion where we almost had a problem due to a screwup in germany but it got handled in time)

(Well, Blair does)
Rather have Thatcher
Don't even joke about that Kharn.
Of the leaders of the 3 (main) parties, Blair is far and away the best leader.
The Tories are a joke, and that goes double for Michael Howard. Their policies consist solely of arguing with (New) Labour, which although somewhat typical of party politics, they take it to an extreme.
The Lib-Dems fit closest to my political views, but Charles Kennedy would not make a good PM. He seems to be a competant MP, but he has no charisma, no flair. He would not really be able to lead the country.
Blair was good when he first started, but he's just tired now, he looks 30 years older than when he started. He also took a very big popularity hit when he lied to the country and forced us into an unpopular war. There is also nobody in the Labour party to replace him.

You brits, much like the Americans, should learn that political parties are bigger than their leaders.

Just sayin'

Either way I'm still gonna blame canada, mostly because Kat lives there!

There're other people there too, y'know

I know that, and I think we know that better than the Americans (observe, for instance, the amount of power given to our respective leaders. There are no presidential orders here, nor presidential pardons. Everything the prime minister does has to go through the house of commons). But the Prime Minister is our face in global politics, he is how our country is perceived.
I'd rather have an incompetant leader with a competant cabinet than the other way around.
There're other people there too, y'know
 There are?

Thank Kat for the link, i won't have to look for it.

USAians are alway quick to blame Canada, for their electric problems...things is we supply YOU (New-york) with electricity (in the summer), because we have too much, but if you keep bitching about it...we'll just keep it for ourselves.

:P

New York needs to quit whining and bitching about electricity. They need to make their own damn electricity! They're actually suing my state because we won't turn on the Long Island Sound cable, which would supply power from CT (where I live) to New York and stuff.

Australia is unfortunately like that as well. Latham gives exactly the same speeches as Mr Boring Crean, but he has charisma (and swears and beats up unnoying taxi drivers) so he replaced the competant but plain candidate. I think that it is probably the same in every country. We are not that far from democracy in Indonesia in that respect. This is because people are the same ignorant sheep everywhere. I challenge anyone to give me an example of an uncharismatic leader with good policies beating a charismatic leader and becoming the new president or prime minister. The most important counter example is Bush Jr (who shouldn't even have won the election if you remember) winning up against Al Gore, who had no personality and was not a fighter.

Well, finally got power back today (four days later).

Of course, we had to chuck out a couple of hundred dollars worth of food, but at least we can now enjoy blessed air conditioning and hot water once again.

Well, in Northern Virginia, we weren't affected at all by that power plant. However, though, a few months prior, the hurricane wiped out our power for over a week. Now, the blame for that fell on old infrastructure. Our power lines and poles hadn't been replaced for decades in places, and the hurricane destroyed all the old equipment.

Of course, America is quite a different experience as opposed to other countries. In Egypt, Mexico, & Jamaica; there were frequent long power-outs, had a generator for each of those countries, nearly impossible to live without.

I wish a hurricane would wipe out my old TV. Maybe then my Mum would get an LCD or plasma.

Or maybe she wouldn't buy a TV at all, and you would die from lack of entertainment.

I believe you are not geographically suited for the occurrence of Hurricanes. Besides, you can't buy your own television?

He's not geographically suited to have money for that either.

In the last two Dutch national elections, Jan Peter Balkenende won over Wouter Bos:

Take a wild stab who's the most charming of the two? Yeh, the loser, two times in a row

That's the advantage of not having direct elections to pic your MP. Rhineland model sucks!
