New animations 2

i must point out that this is amazing stuff you guys doing here with pixel art.
too bad we have no access to the engine, otherwise you could made models in every color you want, with simple color mask and then sprite RGB remapping.
If you think about it the way Jagged Alliance 2 designers did it, then I'm not sure how it would work with the existing Fallout 256-colours palette. The sprites and the palette weren't made with that in mind in the first place, but it's an interesting idea nonetheless.

Back to topic, I really don't know how a casino bouncer in a Fallout universe would look like. Fedora hat? Maybe. But the current outlook, all tighten up ape and everything, it never really did it for me.

Maybe some standard Fallout trousers with 2 straps over a naked muscular body and polished shoes? White undershirt (maybe a bit dirty and torn up)? Fedora hat? I leave it to your imagination...

from what i remember its suppose to be fairly simple, you take your 8bpp sprites and create a mask for it, for example marking all the black leather area in blue and keeping the rest transparent.
now you need to edit your sprite loader to look for that mask and when found remap everything colored in blue according to whatever combination that works for you

so for example you can even make a standard of 3 color mask (one for skin, one for hair and one for clothing or whatever) and with a few preset remapping's, you can achive dozens of difrent combination's. (an example )
so now you need to load fewer assets as you dont need raider in black, blue or pink models only one in black and the mask and you got dozens of them.

obviously its not as good as pixel art for 8bpp's its very fast way to make excellent result's and expand your verity a lot, its can also be applied to textures or anything else in game...

Unfortunately, imo, that critter's level of :ugly: is just too great to be fixed by anything but complete removal.
I like you even moar now.

I wouldn’t want to remove it completely from the game though, love or hate them; they are a part of the game design.
Hey! We don't need to follow the bugs can be fixed, but shitty design is forever route! Just create a simple mod which will replace them with something new, hopefully better fitting. Don't like them? Unpack the archive into the Fallout 2 directory. Simple as that.

Might look a bit stupid and unnecessary but you ever thought about remaking the car sprite with certain upgrades? (Trunk space, the thingy with a girl's name that improve speed, etc...)

I can imagine something like that as a RP optional :)

This. I would have done it already, as well as many other 'atmosphere restoration' changes if i could arse myself to learn how to do some mapping or a little scripting...

I vaguely remember someone mentioned this same thing somewhere around here. Who said it and what became of that, i don't know.

----
Made this test and i'm not sure;

---

Glowing mutant? rad-mutant? albino super mutant?
So what is it: shitty or actually usable?

More shitty than usable. :P

Better make them a tad more darker, I'd say. Would be more reasonable than bright ones.

Hah! it didn't actually ocurred to me to try instead for darker!

I've been wanting to make some ghoul or SM variation for a while now but there's very little to work with and the ideas i've come up with or have been suggested here turn out either fugly or way too much time consuming...

Thanks for the honest opinion, it's better to know now than waste countless hours to get some unusable stuff in the end. :ok:

I still like this ones:

:P

I just tried with a darker SM instead and results were meh... :x

How about one of these instead?:

A red-haired SM: --- or a female (? :P) SM:

It looks good but i'd have to paint and resize every frame and in addition it doesn't look that different from the original... which gives me doubt.

I'm definitely votin' for the GREEN haired S'mutant ('cos I'm about to neeeeed it one fine day, abcdefgh...!!!) :lalala:

:o Green haired SM? where?? ::looks for it in vain::

:P

The red one looks good, the other looks as if he wears a coat bonnet. *wooo, it's cold in desert* :P

I know this would be a lot of work, but it always struck me that there should be some mutants "gone wrong" - such as one leg/arm smaller - though I guess it could be argued any "mistakes" would have been destroyed.

That looks nice! I imagine that would be a popular hairstyle choice among Super Mutants.
EDIT: No, that looks REALLY nice! :) Could you get the red to be brighter?

What about a nice radioactive-yellow tinge to the ghoul?

It always bugged me there was not much variety in mutants, too. Like you said, not much to work with :(

Yeah, that's just that critter normal head, you know? I only painted over the hair.

Any brighter than that and it becomes too much (imo).

Yellow ghoul doesn't look that bad. :)

Yeah, just 3 SM's and 2.5 ghouls...

I know it could be much better, but I just pieced this together in 10 min. Any better than the current apes?

He looks like fallouty Robin Hood, with that hat.

/Edit: But beside this, it looks somehow cool.
