RE: So!

Granted, the use of the SPECIAL system doesn't warrant the game will be good. But I said it before and I'll say it again, there hasn't been an in-house BIS game I didn't like (The only one I haven't played is IWD), so I have faith in them. I'll judge the game on it's merits when it is out and not before that.

RE: Really?

Though it does appear I'm getting the boot or something, and I know I didn't touch anyone's account lately. I also suppose it's permissible that people troll - as long as they agree with Shadowman. Anyways, I guess this is my cue to leave, and Shadowman just has to get Xotor booted before I guess he'll be satisfied for all the UV naysaying or whatever grudge match there was in the past.

Forget it, I'm through with politics and asskissing. I've been through enough of it with the UV before it split apart, too bad this place became nearly the same damn way.

Oh, well, APTYP. Been nice knowing you and several others here, but I guess it's the time to just shrug and say "fuck it", right?

Politics and asskissing? That's a good one. Since Miroslav owns this site it seems you imply I'm kissing his ass. The last time I spoke to Miroslav was May 7th and all we talked about was Arcanum and some other random stuff. I can show you the chatlog if you want. Before that I hadn't spoken to him in months. There's no conspiracies going on here Rosh, it takes more then one to conspire and I'm on my own.

LATELY? Thats reassuring.

*I also suppose it's permissible that people troll - as long as they agree with Shadowman.*

You say troll and I say valid opposing argument (with all points still uncontested).

You have enemies? Thats a surprise. Nonetheless I dont feel I am one of them. Take that as you will.

You knows maybe someone got to you through me. All I can say to that is: smart cookie.

RE: So!

Icewind Dale didn't impress me much.

One of the main things I think was fundamentally stupid about IWD was that if you set the game on "Easy", it made the monsters easier to kill(less hit points) but you also got less experience for killing them.. Basically, it ends up screwing you in the long run by making the "Easy" setting REALLY hard.

So, basically, I played it on normal, instead of "casual gamer" rushing my way through it like I'd planned. I still didn't get far, because there was nothing to it. Even Demise offered more gameplay than IWD, but Demise is a really good game for a Dungeon Crawler.

Design decisions like that don't impress me, though.

Looking Glass was sacrificed for Ion Storm's budget. Thief sold well enough for a sequel, after all is said and done. System Shock did also.

Wasn't Looking Glass also sucked up by Ion Storm shortly after they "disbanded"?

The Sims was fairly innovative, and it's been selling like hot cakes. That's not saying I liked it, but my wife can't get enough of the game.

Tropico is fairly innovative as well, and it's raking in the dollars now too.

Sure, you can argue that innovation is risky, but sometimes it pays to be innovative.. Big time. :)

What's funny is that a games that have a relatively large amount of development time alloted, like Daikatana, which was concepted during the time of Quake (1) but came out when Quake III came out, can suck so hard.

If you want high quality games the company that develops the game should publish the game. That way they don't have some corporate slug breathing down their neck to get it done, but they also need to get it out in due time with few bugs because Daddy Warbucks-parent company can't pick up the slack.

This happens with id Software, Firaxis, and I expect it of Trokia. They produce tight, high-quality games because their butts are on the line.

It's these mega-conglomerate game companies like EA and Interplay that produce, or rather regurgitate, half-made games from their child companies because their only goal is to get games out as quickly as possible by a certain deadline. The games that have a long development schedule are crappy too, because it isn't the child company's time that equals money.

RE: Really?

This (the whole of this you-troll-me-I-troll-you-thing) isn't funny.
I'm sorry to say this but it's complete shite. Maybe some people got a little too 'passionate' here, but why should that be a problem ? I think some people may be a little to hotheaded around here.

RE: Really?

Yeah probably bit its still relativly civil.

Probably the biggest hurdle here is that many of the opinions are subjective. Its you point of view and outlook which determine how you see things are and should be.

Some like Interplay, some dont. Some like Feargus some dont. some like Interplay's recent releases some dont.

Especially things like game development time. How much is the right time? 15 months? 30 months? Till its done? Till the bills get too big? Which is the right answer?

It seems we have argued it out with no real solution. Oh well most of things end up this way.

LOL! MOTHER FUCKING ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON May-17-01 AT 09:08PM (GMT)[p]I really don't want to start up this all over again. Though, I must say HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! This is the best thread on this forum. EVER. FINALLY someone dared to go up against him. Believe you me, Max, we've had quite a lot of this here in the past, but anyone who tried to fight roshrambo (nice, BTW) has eventually walked back sore and bleeding, OR been banned. The reason for this banning? An old trick often employed by the US to eliminate threatening nations: Back them up into a corner until they HAVE to do something hostile, and then say "they started it" and blow them to kingdom come.

But you have found his weak point! Like the way you learned to withstand the tough-mouthed bullies at school: just ignore him and he'll go away. As in the old cliché, some of his bully buddies might even "see the light" and turn against him.

KUTGW :D

P.S. Check out my new sig :D

Bah, look at all the nasty things that happen when I'm gone. :D
Also, I gotta say that I agree with Max. All his arguments were valid and backed up, and he didn't flame anyone from the beginning.
