that is not what I had actually in mind. Prototype seems to be centered around violance yes.
How many kidz could you kill in F3 ? Sure. Not the most important thing in the world. Nor had Carmagedon kidz (not any I remember).
But you definetly see many developers not going for what they want to do. But what they think is "correct". I mean look at the Duke. I was surprised you could not simply punch all the (anoying ...) people around you.
I konw I know. It is kinda somewhat a weak argument. But I still Save the feeling Carmagedon will go more for the 16+ violance instead to avoid any "higher rating" which would hurt sales eventually. I mean hey. That is what Bethesda did with Fallout 3. Offering so much violance that it is "exactly" enough. Not to much to make moms head explode when little jimmy is playing it but also enough so our 12 year old jimmy can get some joy "look ma. Exploding heads!"
*Did I mentioned I love arguing ?
You know, I cannot stop thinking in the original John Carpenter movie "Assault on 13th Precinct".
The gratuitous violence in the scene of a 10 year girl being shoted in the chest while asking for an ice-cream is simply
marvelous!
Somewhat I expected to see this on movies again to no avail.
The other day I was seeing a movie called "Legion" on HBO cable. Never heard of it, but it has Paul Bettany, Dennis Quaid and other 2nd tier Hollywood actors, so I think 'let's give it a shot'.
The story is about the Apocalypse, God became tired of humanity and send his angels to kill everyone.
Yes, end of life in the mud ball, good call!!!!
The movie is a worthless piece of crap, BTW, but in one scene a boy around his 8 years old is possessed and attack some people. Did I mentioned that everyone in the scene was armed?
So we see the boy having his head blown up?
No sir, some "elaborate fight" simply fall from the sky (no pun intended) and the boy run away after beating the shit out of everyone.
Of course, everyone had a gun, but still we didn't see the deliquent being putted down!
Rob Zombie's "The Devil's Reject" is a good example. The movie is very violent and sometimes offensive, but it don't resort on the "Saw" or "Hostel" gore-porn, you hardly see brains floating and guts exploding, but the violence portraited is trully "Violent".
I'm not a sadistic or violent person, but if you are doing something that requires either being violent, sexy or smart, do it in full form, not by the halves.
Nowdays games, movies, sometimes even comics are so diluted when dealing with certain topics.
It's depressive.
