New Fallout 3 screens

There can't be much left of the freeways, since they had cars on them when the war started. That's like dropping bombs on other bombs and throwing in a few bombs on top.

Why was Per's post on this vatted?

Anyway, as I was trying to write in that thread, the new screen is pretty nice imo. I haven't seen the others before and didn't particularly care for them either, but the last one does make me wonder what charisma will be used for, besides determining reaction. I don't suppose that you'll be able to bring along any npc's (besides the dog they keep talking about), so it looks like it's shaping up to be a major dump stat. That's assuming any of the other stats actually have any major impact on gameplay, of course.

Apparently this wasn't the actual day 3, but just some bonus stuff. We've been promised one editorial each day and I suppose this wouldn't count.

Also, yes, the dog one was the one I thought I did recognize.

Yeah, the pic was on page two of the EGM article along with a shot of a pack brahmin that hasn't been released in digital form.

You really find this nice? For a 2008-2009 game, I find the graphics somewhere between barely tolerable and plainly horrible. I mean, can you come up with a single noticeable 3D title from the past 8-12 months that did not include any support for architectural shadows? I sure as hell can't.

What intrigues me more is: How is that rifle attached to the character? Magnets?

Graphics whore

My answer was for "the new screen is pretty nice imo", which was an opinion I didn't share. Your "graphics whore" was as uncalled for as, say, me calling you a filthy c-sucker right in your face.

Oh, right,.

I agree, I think he should be able to reach behind his shoulder and pull a minigun out of thin air like a magician as in the originals. DAMN YOU BETHE$DA!

This made me smile though.

L'see here, got one semi-pro-FO3 point, one reply, think I need to finish this post off with a semi-anti-FO3 point.

I think the drought on FO3 information and pictures/videos is sort of wishful thinking on Bethesda's part to be able to drum up buzz/hype along the lines of Blizzard. Blizzard recently had a picture of ice on their webpage, and a pretty decent amount of buzz around "WHAT COULD IT BE? NEW DIABLO? NEW LOST VIKINGS?" burst all over the internet. Sort of seems that Bethesda's relying on a "Less is more" strategy for drumming up hype for the game. Unfortunately the major difference is Blizzard is a pretty horrible cocktease up to the announcement of a game, then they're relatively open on information. Bethesda did the good publicity stunt of the countdown for the teaser, then sort of blew it by trying to be coy for all these months.

'course, I'm just pulling all this out of my ass, but it's as good a theory as any as to why they're being so goddamn annoying. When's E3 supposed to be, again? I'm dying for some gameplay movies.

I assume this is in reply to my post, since I'm the only one who used the word nice. And yeah, the screenshot does look nice, imo, although I didn't compare it to any particular current game.

I can't either, but that's mainly because I have no clue what the fuck you're talking about. It looks like there are shadows in the screenshot (although it's hard to tell), but whether they're architectural or not I have no idea. How you know from looking at that screenshot which techniques they're using for making shadows, is also beyond me.

July 15-17.

Sorry, I guess it makes more sense to use "environmental shadows" in terms of this title. What I mean is that there are no non-character shadows in any of the screenshots. As in Oblivion, they simply spray-paint areas around large objects with darker colors and/or use vertex painting and modified textures on the objects themselves. Take a close look at the objects in this picture

and you'll know what I mean. It may not be as important with small objects like chairs and computer monitors (although the absence is definitely noticeable in-game), but it looks incredibly ridiculous when you have. say, a sunset, a skyscraper and not a single shadow in sight.

EDIT: Here's another screenshot (from Oblivion) that illustrates my point to a larger degree. Check the bridge and the rock nearby. From what I heard and saw, it's going to be the same thing with F3.

Nah. The X360 is, after all, their main development platform.

I couldn't help to notice that the PC is only wearing one shoulder pad. Does this mean they're using a Morrowind-like armour system?
