We at No Mutants Allowed have scored an interview with Vince D. Weller, head of the Iron Tower Studios and lead person behind the Age of Decadence, a promising post-apocalyptic RPG scheduled to ship this fall. Mr. Weller, known to the community as an admin of the site RPGCodex, talked at length about his upcoming game and generously showed us some never-before-seen screenshots that we are happy to share with our readers.

Here is a small excerpt from the interview:
Well, the devastation is everywhere. You'll see crumbling towns and dead, ruined cities; dried rivers and buried research facilities; unhealing scars of the war where the physical rules had been bended, etc.

How does it project into gameplay? Well, first of all, you visit and explore those locations, learn and piece together old stories, learn how and why the Empire fell. Second, it *is* a post-apocalyptic game, not a game merely set in some ruins. The society has reversed to the more primal state where the only rules you can rely on are the ones you can enforce yourself (or your faction can). Third, it's integrated into the story, explaining why everyone is so interested in the artefacts of the past.
Click here to see the rest.

Wait. AOD is PA, Isometric View, Traits System, Turn-Based Combat...

Shag Fallout 3, it's already here! (Well, whenever this comes out.)

Heh, Mikey I commend your strength of character and reserve.

Great looking game and idea. I like the alternate history idea.

No.

Someone's lying. This cant be true.

If it is...well. Its got so many of the right features and if there implemented even decently I'll have to buy this game even at new, full price.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

I remember reading about this on their forums a long time ago. While the graphics look mehh the game does look interesting, and it sounds like a solid RPG. I'm not sure about the "post apocalyptic" side of things as the game features people in plate armor with swords and what have you, somthing not usually featured in post apocalyptic games.

Cool game still.

It's set after an apocalypse in Roman times, caused by abuse of magic. So it's a Roman setting, altered by a much more destroyed world and a more pessimistic outlook. I think.

Post-apocalyptic doesn't imply "teh future". See the Deluge, the Ice Age, and whatever sunk Atlantis for more details.

Oh, and thanks for the positive responses.

In that case, sounds great. It might be interesting for a different environment. I just looked at the screenshots and it looked very cliched. My apologies to VDweller for not looking into it more deeply before charging the setting with not being apocalyptic.

Good god man. Can't fucking wait to see and play that, though the view looks a bit odd, almost iso but the the camera seems set a little low.

Oh and your forums kill me: "Request: port AoD to the Wii" ... wow.

Or Poland.

Actually, a friend of mine is making a game in an alternate reality, where he went quite medieval on the counterpart of the Land Down Under.

So lay low :D

That's probably because that's the Codex crowd. They've become so cynical and jaded that they seem to be unable to talk about anything seriously. So they constantly make joke threads like that.

Curse you Vince D. Weller for mentioning Prelude to Darkness!

That crap is absolutely unplayable. I feel like I've been raped.

I played it 3 years ago when it was originally released and frequently patched. I only had a few minor issues. The new version that was released recently isn't very playable though. Anyway, my point was about the overall design.

We'll fix it.

Well aware. From what I could play of it (10 minutes) it was pretty rad. I wonder if there's a way to find an older version?

Kudos on the project, though. It'll be more playable than this Prelude to Darkness, right? :)

It's also pretty uncommon to see a project lead say "I didn't think about that" when asked about an obvious feature.

It's a refreshing lack of something. I think it starts with a B?
