As the video description says, we're not going to distribute the graphics with the package.
Never before have I been forced to regret the day I sold off FOT

Screamers is a really cool B-Movie with a nice post-apo setting... great atmo!

It's loosely(?) based on Philip K. Dick's short-story "Second Variety". (If you've seen the movie, you would understand the title.)
BTW, you can find a lot of post-apoc from PKD.

OT:
This game looks really great! Good job!

It's pretty cheap these days...

I it looks impressive :) . I like the amount of choices :) .

I have some questions:
*Can player create his own hero or heroine?
*How does starting combat from dialogues look? Is there an initiative contest between player and person talked to or the person talked to attacks first automatically?
*How realistic is the combat system?
*What are its system requirements?
*Are dialogue options stat-dependent?

Thank you :)

Yes, like in Fallout, there will be a bi-gender character creation screen.

*How does starting combat from dialogues look? Is there an initiative contest between player and person talked to or the person talked to attacks first automatically?

Dialogue scripting allows to hardcode who attacks first. Right now that's all we do. When the battle system has more depth, it will have similar qualities to Fallout's combat, so there should be initiative-type rolls.

*How realistic is the combat system?

It's pretty basic right now, too early to tell. We do not intend to go into a direction of reality as perceived by George Lucas, however.

*What are its system requirements?

We will stress memory/CPU more than the videocard. I estimate, similar to system requirements for World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade. Shelter may not be an epic online game, but it also has a wider focus.

*Are dialogue options stat-dependent?

Yes. Dialogue options are anything-dependent. You can make it check against stats, or against random numbers or whether someone has an item, whether someone's stat/currently (not) equipped stuff is below or above a mathematical expression or someone else's equipment, or whether a specific quest has been activated, succeeded, or failed, use expressions such as AND and OR.... basically _almost_ anything. It's a mini-language, and it was used to make things happen in the video, which was "filmed" entirely in realtime except for cuts to adjust length of its segments and "alternate flashes".

I have one that branches off the bi-gender character selection: Is there an option for different races, and possibly some feature changes, like hair color, or lack thereof of hair?

And, the technology in the game: Are we going to see a 50's-style Science! imagining of technology, or will it be more modern standards in that aspect?

We only utilize character customization that affects the game. In the unlikely case that we do find that somehow, coloring your hair yellow should have an effect on an NPC reaction, then we'll put a hair color option in the character screen. However, in that case, it won't be reflected visually on your character anyway. Same goes for skin color.

We're not going with Fallout's 50's vision of the future, because it doesn't fit our story/timeline.

The beginnings of this can be seen reflected in the UI, which looks more modern-futuristic; we're not going to have vacuum tubes and the like in there. After all, we're not making a copy of Fallout.

Awesome awesome awesome! :D

Is it still only you and your cousin working on this? Time to get other people to start helping out soon? I would if I could.

Thanks for the reply, shihonage. About the only thing I could see with having different character options having a use would be through little out-of-dialog-window comments, like "Hey, Baldy" or "What's with your hair?", anyway. Just a way to tie yourself in with the character, otherwise. And, for the tech comment, I wasn't pointing at this copying FO in that, I just wanted to know whether I should expect disintegrator rays or grenade launchers. Anyway, thanks again.

Good job fellows! Really looks pretty much. The Screamers my favorite movie, very close for post-nuclear true.

anyway good luck
