New Vegas Classic Pack Pre-Order Bonus

The Alan Wake special edition, for instance. Contains the game, contains the soundtrack, contains some extra "the making of" crapola and a full colour book delving into the Alan Wake mythology. Say what? I thought we were talking about a game here, something to play on the pc or another contraption, yet 75% of the package is not a game. Huh? To me that doesn't make sense, and it shouldn't make sense to gamers in general. In the past it used to be like this: something gets released, something becomes popular? Well, then and only then do we expand on it.

I pre-ordered the Alan Wake Limited Edition, which meant I got it for same price as the normal edition of the game.

It's pretty cool having your game come in a big box (like the days of 1990s PC games), containing an extra bonus disc and a soundtrack disc and a voucher thing with a code on it to get first Alan Wake DLC for free. The bonus disc also installs stuff onto your xbox hard drive, like a comentary feature for the main game (though some might argue the game should come with that anyway) and an xbox live avatar outfit.

That stuff on its own would be pretty cool, but the coolest thing is
an entire fake book with fake quotes from fake reviewers on the back. A book supposedly written by someone investigating the strange goings on in the town. That is pretty cool.

Would I pay an extra £10 or £20 to get that sort of stuff? Hmm, not sure. But paying an extra NOTHING... fuck yes. And it meant that for once £40 for a videogame did not seem overpriced.

It occurs to me that the "Weathered 10mm Pistol" isn't just a bad bonus, given that it looks like in Fallout New Vegas the main pistol type is going to be 9mm.

The magazine previews have all shown 9mm pistol and various unique upgrades for it, and oriignally in Van Buren they were going to have it so that 10mm was rare and 9mm was common.

So yeah, it's just 10mm pistol from Fallout 3... but there won't be many 10mm pistols in New Vegas. And the description sounds like they've given it a bit of a damage bonus, so it is going to be more powerful than the 9mm pistols.

This bonus stuff will be advantagous for the first few hours of play, in the same way that Fallout 3's armoured vault suit was better than the vault suits, security armour and raider armour that it available at the start of the game. But rubbish compared to combat armour, metal armour, etc.
