I can more or less understand the winner, the finesse is truly amazing. However the choice of the runner ups is really (=/+ up . When browsing one could see far better ones (RealPublic's for one) .

I really don't see why the result is so hard to swallow for some people. It's a caption contest. People were going to have different favourites, so the winner could never have been everyone's favourite.

The "opera singer" one is great because caption and image immediately click and trigger a recontextualization. That way alone it beats the large part of the competition offering "only" a commentary on whatever is going on in the picture or a tangential one-liner.
