NMA Fallout 3 modding forum opened

By the way, I think a "Fallout 3 General Discussion" or "General Fallout 3 Discussion"-Board would bebetter at the moment.

We were planning to do that at release day. The game still isn't out.

Maybe we'll shove it forwards. But the forum is really quiet now, so we can just leave it as is.

I'm a little surprised to see this, especially so soon, but it's a welcome sight.

From what I've seen so far (from the illegally posted youtube videos) there are a ton of things in the vault that could be changed, but I'll go post my suggestions in the modding forum (assuming they haven't been posted already).

BTW did the G.O.A.T. get anyone else's... goat? :P It seemed fairly stupid and pointless to me.

That's easy, just cut out all the ceilings. Adding transparency to walls will be tougher.

It would not work : River City ( and I assume it's far from being the only location like that ) has several levels and they are not "disconnected by loadings". If you cut the ceilings/make them transparent, there will be a problem with the superior levels.

Anyway I'd say implementing top down view shouldn't be a priority for modders as there will probably numerous things to fix with Fallout 3 itself other than trying to redefine its gameplay.

But yeah it's getting rather off topic so I'd gladly pursue this conversation in the proper section instead.

i saw the full intro...

"Because in Vault 101, no one ever enters no one ever leaves"..... oh god... i think i feel sick .....

It was a mildly creative way of asking the player, its more immersive then setting up a character sheet. Then again I think the vault intro is well placed, perhaps not well executed but I am awaiting playing the game for that determination.

As for what kind of doctor is in the vault. One that has never been to medical school, since he was born and raised in there. His entire medical training probably came from holovids.

If they were going to do this, why not just start out as a single cell, ala Spore?

THAT would have been a game I'd want to play.

Ok, seriously, we're going to use the term "immersive" in this context now?

Seriously, that term is already meaningless enough without applying it haphazardly to everything.

I'm pretty sure it's your dad, James, talking when you make your choices.

Awesome. Way to get an early start on this. Bethesda may actually get some money from me for this game if the community can sufficiently improve it.

Btw, I like your Codex custom tag BN. Did you "Douchebag" yourself?

yes is nice BUT!!! when they have u in their arms they ask: if u are a boy or a girl ... NO before u are born.... like the doctor is blind.....
like this:

Born, cry, doctor: "oh boy...is a boy or a girl?" ask gender....

then your father: "is a boy / girl Catherine a healty baby boy / girl"

Sorry for my english :P

I wasn't sold on the birth-and-grow-up thingy before, but I'm a sucker for this sort of immersive sequences... went through HL train ride more times than I should admit... so the way they did it, in the leaked videos, actually interests me.

It really looks like a great way to introduce someone who has never played computer games, i.e. someone like my father, to the general concepts of an RPG, without taxing his brain with character sheets.

I might just purchase the game for that reason alone, 'cause I can't think of any more accessible way to make him understand an RPG ;)

What I am curious about is if we could get those traits back in there. That was one of my bigger disappointments. And if possible, could one throw up that monitor for when people talk to you and therefore not have to worry about people speaking when in dialogue. If it is possible, it would allow for better dialogue opportunities and more in depth writing.

Well if bethesda releases modding tools, and if these tools support editing perks, i suppose we could edit 1st level perks to turn them into traits.
Anyway when you get out of the vault, which is practically when the game starts, since at that point you can edit your character sheet, you immediately gain one level and one perk. So if level one perks had negative drawbacks, it would be the same as starting off with a trait.

Oh! OH! They could've made you play thru the lives of your ancestors and witness the key moments of fallout timeline!
USA vs. China RTS action on an alaskan battleground! Defcon-style thermonuclear war strategy stages!

Yeah... maybe not.
