No DLC on PS3 for Fo3

We held this PS3 Fanboy snippet back during the height of the E3 excitement, but now it can be told: none of the "substantial" downloadable content planned for Fallout 3 will be available to PS3 users. Apparently Microsoft wants to randomly slam Sony or something.

Thanks cakefan (who by the way wanted to know if there are other PS3 owners here, so if you are one, wave your hand).

*waves hand*. Although I think if I get Fallout 3 it'll probably be the PC version (depending on the availibilty of modding tools).

As stated before, odds are good that I will end up playing this on the PC instead of my PS3.

But it still angries up my blood when this sort of crap happens.

Not because of any serious feelings of deprival, but instead the knowledge that X-Box 'tards will act as if this makes up for the fact that their system is nothing more than a garbage can with sparks flying out of it.

I am a PS3 owner but I was going to get it for the PC anyway. I don't care about DLC if it is like Oblivion (9$ for 10min content) but I do care about modding/editing tools.

I also think that modding will be big for fallout 3 and will likely vastly improve the game.

I think this will be a better game on the xbox. I think the PS3 is awkward and not extremely user friendly.

I suppose I have instant bias due to the DL content.

I highly doubt they'll be any modding tools for this. That said even if there are, mods won't be able to fix most of the crappy gameplay elements.

It is true that some game play elements could not be fixed easily. But I think that it is likely that modding tools will be released as Bethesda has a history of doing so. Also in releasing modding tools they can extend the playability of the game which makes people more likely to get their expansions.

Unless their DLC deal with Microsoft also covers not releasing any modding tools?

That would be pretty gay.

And that's the first time I've used the word "gay" like that.

Indeed, but not beyond Bethesda and MS. It might be why they're always trying to dodge the construction set topic.

Hey, hey, hey. The sparks keep the X-Box players warm.

In all seriousness.... yep, I agree with you totally. X-Box 360's pretty much the only piece of gaming hardware I've ever seen where you'll actually probably end up using your warrantee. I've met quite a few people who've had theirs crash, and all I can think is, "Well, that's another reason not to spend hundreds of dollars on a system without decent games and $50 controllers."

Awesome sig, it makes a lot of sense when you think about it.

But yeah, I have a 360 (It was a gift from my Godfather *cues violin*) and I find that now that I have a PS3, I use it less and less because it's an unreliable machine prone to lock-ups and other irritating habits (like chewing the hell out of my Operation Darkness DVD).

I always found that when BS dodges a question it usually means the answer is No.

In addition, if they are going to make their DLCs for the PC then it stands to reason that they would not want competition which mod tools create (you get more people buying if there is no free option). Plus if you are going to have to pay for MS Live service to get the DLC for the PC (that's a lot of acronyms) then it stands to reason that they might want to force the issue instead of having free alternatives.

I personally enjoyed Morrowind (then again I paid $20 US for the whole thing) and I can't believe the company that used to give out free content (and had a rapport with fans) has turned into this.

^You don't need to pay for Live to download DLC.

I think Beth might wait until they sell some DLC before releasing a CS. That way everyone wins in some fashion.

Thank yourself, you're the one who came up with the zinger.

It's a lot better than my first sig, I think.... it was a bit too weird.

More on topic: I'm pretty sure the husband of one of my coworkers has stopped using his 360 since he got a PS3 too.

The really sad part about the 360 is, MS KNEW about the problems, still released it, and, what, two years on now, STILL hasn't fixed the issues it has. Real professional....

Thanks, I have no working knowledge of MS Live and I though someone mentioned having to pay for it. It's nice to know that Bs won't be gouging their customers quite as much.

I gotsa ps3. But I hate playing shooters (in general) on consoles. I was concidering getting FO3 for the PC eventually when it ends up in a bargin bin, but this E3 coverage has convinced me to save those five dollars for something else.

On a different subject: These console wars are getting pretty ugly, and desperate. Now they're figthing over "substancial" dlcs? Have a bit more class Microsoft. But whatever.

I actually don't understand why BS would do this. Correct me if I'm wrong but I would imagine that the income that would come from PS3 owners would outweigh any bonus from MS for exclusivity. So from a purely financial view this makes little sense.

Also, I would be surprised at BS for screwing over their customers like this if this was any other company. A move like this would piss me off if I was a PS3 owner who was interested in this game (I am neither). If BS cared about generating good will towards the company this is definitely the wrong move (but it seems like good will mean nothing to them).

This move just makes little sense to me. Is there a good reason for this?
