"Not Morrowind With Guns"

Good news, everyone! Bethesda dev MrSmileyFaceDude dropped by our forum today, and raised our hopes with this:
Fallout 3 will be very, very different from Oblivion (or any other TES game). It won't be "Morrowind with guns". It won't even be "Oblivion with guns".
So either he knows something or has set in motion an elaborate scheme to build up and then shatter our expectations.... naaah, it can't be ;)

Thanks go to Dagon for the heads up.

It still doesn't mean the game won't be a real time FPS-RPG hybrid. When I see the first screens, that is when I'll put my fears to rest.

Well as these news sound optimistic i cant get rid of the thought that this wont be our beloved fallout :( maybe something familiar but so distand at that :?

(runs around screaming and tearing his clothes)

Assuming this means what I think it does...I'm uber-happy! I mean without the Marrowind design concept you can really have an action-rpg...I mean sure you could still have something with plenty of action (like a D&D RPG), but most action-rpg'ers have moved past those so I think this is confirmation that the company is recognising the Wasteland series as niche titles and producing them accordingly.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

Shoot, we didn't even mention we were working on Oblivion until we'd been working on it for nearly 2 and a half years. We just prefer to wait until we have something substantial to talk about, partially because we don't want to make promises we can't keep, and partially because if you extend hype over too long a period of time folks tend to get tired of waiting.

Fallout 3 won't be ready until 2007-2008? I think I'm gonna cry...

Nononono, don't worry, I don't think he wanted to say that, I think he meant to say that they usually don't talk about unfinished games, but because this is Fallout he had to.
I personally expect to see Fallout 3 in 2006 (or 2007 worst case scenario).

Aren't you being too optimistic, DirtyDreamDesigner? Seriously, 2006 is impossible, they just can't make Fallout 3 that fast.

Agreed. 2007 is more realistic. Remember, it took them three years to develop Daggerfall, and even longer for Morrowind. It is really unlikely they will finish Fallout 3 within only 2 - 2.5 years of purchasing the license.

Hmm yeah but for Daggerfall ,Morrowind and Oblivion they were making engine, and Fallout 3 don't need to have new engine because it's made on Oblivion engine

Yeah, it's not really anything new, one of the folks here said something similar in an interview.

'course, but what the hey...if there's no news at all, we might as well repost some good news as it resurfaces.

Some new stuff would be even more gooderer, though. Ah lah. Heh.

Actually, Daggerfall's Xngine had previously been used in Terminator: Future Shock. Also, if they really intend to make Fallout 3 radically different from Oblivion and more in spirit of previous sequels, they will likely need to make serious changes to the engine and maybe even develop a different one.
