NW European Heatwave '06

I think a fan would suffice, but I rarely suffer from extreme temperatures, so meh. Actually, I kind of enjoy 40 degrees celsius.

because you can just open the window at night & let in the cooler night air? and airco in your bedroom is an energy hog you can live without.

Do that in Sweden and you let in a SOLID WALL that is made of mosquitos.

We normally should be around 23C here in Alberta. Currently its hitting mid 30's. With all the A/C houses/business' in the area our power company started rotating power shutdowns around the city, pissing off alot of people. We also import power from B.C. but a storm took out the power line somewhere in the rockies. Considering we are a very energy rich province and are in the middle of a population boom, you would think they would get their arse in gear and up the capacity of the power stations. Idiots.

never heard of a mosquito net window thing you put in an open window? a mighty bit less expensive than an AC.

We have a couple of nets (and no AC). They don't do wonders for air circulation.

Just get yourselves a ten Euro fan for your bedroom, cheapskakes. And get a butload of water for during the day.

We live in one of the last socialist states in Europe. We can't afford anything more expensive than 9 Euros. Thanks for reminding me, meanie.

Rain don't do shit for the temp. here. The rain came in, the temp dropped 8 degrees, the rain stopped and the temp went back-up.
30 minutes of relief was all we got. I've 3 fans going plus a ceiling fan in the basement. All openable windows have screens plus both doors have a screen door also. If you time it right and close certain windows around 7 AM the house will stay around 27C if you close them too late it will hit 30C inside. The basement is about 4-5C cooler, so we spend most of the time down there.

Here's a little tip, try putting tin-foil on the inside of the windows, it helps keep the heat out. Just don't put the shiney side facing out or you risk burning your grass, I killed half my front lawn last year by accident.

Well we just had torrential rain and sheet lightning, with double peals of thunder overhead.

Good fun!

I love it when it's hot, at least 32°C. I wish it could be like that the whole year round.

Banned.

Also, be more robust guys. Sure, it's teh hawt, but it's not the worst that could happen.

30 degrees ain't as bad as 30 thousand.

We wouldn't be around long enough to feel 30,000 degrees celsius though. I doubt much of the Earth would, either.

Well, theoretically, since temperature and heat isn't the same thing...

Plasma has been heated to billions of degrees in some laboratory somewhere.

Yes, but there wasn't exactly some dude standing around inside the magnetic field that contained the plasma...

And the heat capacity of air is high enough for us to feel the heat when the temperature is 30,000 degrees, thank you. Especially with winds multiplying it.

It's a silly discussion.

You obviously have no idea what drunken scientists will do on a dare.
