Oddworld - The Oddbox

TD: How big is the Oddworld universe in the grand scheme of things? Any chance of seeing another Oddworld game in the next five years?

LL: Oddworld is a creation that we’ll likely never sell or part with. It wasn’t created for that purpose. It was created with the intent of creating modern myths in pop culture mediums. Nurturing these myths and their casts [of characters] to actually mean something in an increasingly meaningless landscape of blatant consumerism.

So yes, we will be seeing more from Oddworld. Regarding the library, we are in the process of converting Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee and Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath to the PC, so that all four of the major Oddworld games will be re-releasing this winter in a package called "The Oddbox." This will be the Abe games, Munch, and Stranger as one package for Steam's digital distribution network, as well as a few other digital distribution outlets.

Pretty much the best thing ever if you ask me... :o

I have them both on the xbrick and I can honnestly say that they feature some of the best design I've ever came across in any game of any genre.

I love Oddworld.

EDIT : I really hope this comes in a physical package someday...
I want a box for the Oddbox !

How annoying. I already bought Abe's Oddysee and Exodus on Steam.
Couldn't get Exodus to work properly though... And they only cost me $5 anyway.

We'll see.
Will probably buy.

used to love to play Oddysee, so i sure wouldn't mind getting my hands on an Oddbox.

Ahh good news. I never got to play the Stranger's Wrath and MS refuses to make it compatible with 360 so I'm excited.

By the way, how sucky is it that Fangus Klot was cancelled? I've been looking forward to it for so long.

Interesting timing on this news.

Two days ago I started playing Abe's Exodus again (Hadn't played it in over 10 years, and never beat it). I forgot how hard this game was, but it still holds up well today.

The one thing that's pissing me off is that there's a LOT of slowdown later on in the game, and it's kicking my PS2's ass (sad for a PSX game, no?).

Big fan of oddworld myself, cant wait this.

Allmost bought myself xbox just to play these but i guess now i dont have to.

I tried playing the first Oddworld when it was new. The story and characters were interesting, but I felt the gameplay was stupidly hard for no reason. Console-like savepoints did not help with that. But maybe I felt that way because I went down on the first screen and not to the right as I should have.

After having tried finishing that screen for a few minutes I thought "If this is how the game will be later on, I don't see a reason to waste more of my time playing it". Still don't regret that decision, but I think it's good that developers are releasing older titles on the PC that were previously unavailable.

stupidly hard? don't think we played the same game then. maybe you didn't follow the tutorial part well enough.

sure, you often had to replay the same parts again, but that was pretty much part of the type of game it was.

I miss Oddworld games, Exodus and Odysee. This is true justice to PC owners. Can barely wait to get my hands on Munch's Oddysee and Stranger's Wrath.

Very good news, already have Abe's Exoddus/Oddysee from Steam, and still have Munch's Oddysee around somewhere, but it'd be great to have all four games together.

Great game mythology.
The games might be hard, but they're rewarding.
What's nice about these kind of games is that style and content mix well together.

Every Oddworld game I've heard of excites me. Both for having a unique and apparently interesting setting and having good gameplay. Unfortunately the early games I never got a hold of and the older games weren't for PC. This was especially bothersome when Josh (member here) told me the general story for Stranger's Wrath and I immediately wanted it, but don't own an X-Box.

I always knew one day they would package them together and probably offer them on PC. I'm ecstatic. To think I'll have all the games and not have played even one.

By the way is each game a different story or are they related at all? I'm pretty sure judging by the description that each has it's own time and place separate from the others, but I wouldn't know.

As you can probly guess from the names, Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus and Abe's Oddysee are direct sequels.

Munch's Oddysee involves Abe from the originals, but is more centered around Munch the gabbit whom Abe assists.

Stranger's Wrath is the "Odd" one of the bunch, no pun intended, involving neither Abe or Munch, and taking on the story of The Stranger, a bounty hunter.

All pretty awesome games, Abe's Exoddus/Oddysee were side-scrolling platformers, Munch's Oddysee was like an Adventure/Platformer, and Stranger's Wrath was an Action/Adventure game that had FPS elements when using the Strangers selection of guns and other weapons.
