ok, so how do we make FO3 more "falloutesque"

Rewind, actually the vault has excellent technical educations. Technology is far from primitive. They have access to the entire congressional library, public libraries, scientific guides, there are manufacturing faculties in most vaults. You just dont see going to school. Although you do hear mentions of getting a A in one of the flashbacks in one of B's classes. Basically when they got out of the vault they may actually be better prepared to use the tech around them.

Now as for guns, that would be dependent on age and profession. A guard would know guns obviously. Me, I passed the test as a guard. I most passed as a chef and chaplain though LOL.

I suppose the complain of skill growth is extremely true and totally fixed :D You can get several mods which spread out your skill growth over 40 levels, with fixer points per level and more time per level up!

:) :D

umm by them having all of that tech and knowledge makes it even more likely they would not be a jack of all trades, you could live for 100,000 years and barely scratch the surface of all of the data in all of those sources, IE you specialize.

Where are those mods by the way?

After traveling through the wasteland (= my mind) :drummer: i once again received enlightenment.

Fallout had dumb dialogue options, to make this in Fallout 3 somebody basically just needs to write dumb dialogue lines for every character sentence and somehow connect them to the INT(less 3 = dumb dialogue or something) stat. So instead of "What`s the news around town?" you need to click "Rumors", sorry i mean "Wuts new is town?"

Dumb Dialogue? I agree! That would be fantastic! It would also be great to have dumb dialogue with Moira! The player and her would get along just fine!

Do you want to climb into the computer box jungle and save the hidden lady from the mean electric buzzing snakes?

Y/N

Wow, so many shitty ideas from so-called "fallout fans". Seriously, the OT is crap. Why would I want little Britain references? Give me life of Brian.

wow... THATS what you got hung up on most?

it was just a suggestion man... not everybody likes (or even knows of ) monty python (although i do and i do) so i thought we could have included something from a more modern humor...

or maby you just want fallout 2 in 3D with nothing changed?

oh and since you just marched in here and crapped all over this thead, why dont you come up with something good then?
or maby youre not a "fallout-fan"?

1 - Yeah! we need more missing! some enemies need that as well. I remember when fighting wild dogs in the original fallout(s) it was: Dog misses. Dog misses. Dog misses....

2 - whatever

3- I wouldn't remove blueprints. yet we could have it so that when you reach a certain repair/science skill your character "invents" something and you get the blueprint. But you should still be able to create the thingies with blueprints you buy/find.

4 - I would like some more non-combat random encounters. Also any random encounter should happen while fast-traveling...

5 - yup, info on AP cost and the like for weapons is a must.

6 - whatever.

7 - whatever.

8 - we need this. it should be balanced tough, for we have way less skills than in FO1/2, and they go up to 100 instead of 200/300.

Perception to actually have an effect? Like seeing mines?

yeah! what's more I have never failed disarming a trap. that's stupid! specially with a crappy explosives skill...

also, there are already some great interface mods which bring the FO feel to new levels, you should try them.

I've never failed disarming a trap(don't even know if you can) but I actually found a trap I couldn't disarm because my REPAIR skill was too low >.<

I've been thinking about this for most of the 70 hours i've been playing FO3.. (actually, i'm now so bored with the game I can no longer continue.. NO replay value what-so-ever.)

Things I would change:

Remove all voice-acting except for vital/interesting talking heads (eg. Dad, Eden, etc.)

If it's possible: permanent scrolled out view (almost iso). I'm thinking that this would be hard to do given that the buildings and environment don't 'fade away'. Also I'm sure the engine wouldn't allow this.

Point-and-click world.. I used to really, really dislike this but it eventually grew on me during those month-long Diablo fests. This would go really well with 'Item Highlight'. Potentially possible.. it would be like permanently playing in an interactive Constrution Set.

There's more.. there always is.

I've played both Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 (just like another billion gamers), and my biggest complaint about Fallout 3 is the lack of comedic shtick. Fallout 1 and 2 had quite a few low-brow jokes and shitck built into them, whereas Fallout 3 seems to be just a Oblivion clone with guns. Perhaps I have not played enough of the game yet, but I'm still waiting for the original Fallout "feel" to kick in. As for things I hate about the game; the menus are difficult to use, the gamescreen HUD does not provide a great deal of information, and the equipment wear-out SUCKS!!!(!) Also, a simpler method of healing would be nice, instead of healing each individual limb that is damaged. While I realize that adding the original comedic shtick that the other Fallout games contained would necessitate a total re-write and would therefore be nearly impossible, I look forword to some mods to make the game easier and more pleasurable to play.

one observation i have to say about the whole "lacking of fallout feel" thingy is that i have read that the head developer for FO3 (and oblivion) apparantly didnt like the shtick in fallout at all... and since that is a huge part of the game (without it, the game is just another boring post-apocalyptic survivalgame) and they took it out, i think thats what most people are missing from the game, wether they know it or not...

im guessing that if they had included this kind of humor in the game then there would have been alot less people complaining about the game not being fallout and more just complaining of features lacking (like people complained about oblivion after morrowind... noone said it wasnt "TES" enough)

guys guys dumb dialogue is allready implemented .. somebody needs to implement intelligent dialogue :) ::drumroll::

seriously :(

besides the weapons, skills balanceing and usefullness i'd love descriptions to go back in the game and if possible to double/triple the distances between towns and notable buildings/places

oh yeah - i almost forgot

different types of damage

melee
fire
piercing
explosive
energy etc.

I was thinkin' about this and - oh so suddenly! - enlightment came to me: tribals! we need tribals! It can't be a fallout game without those lovable scantily-clad spear-armed tribals! Just make them pop-up as random encounters! (also, I just noticed there's no spears whatsoever in the blasted Capital Wasteland)

things that need to be fixed from most to least important

1. Stats need to be buffed:

I'm pretty sure the special stats need to mean more. Thus far most of them only effect whatever skill they are related too, they should have effects in addition to that like they previously did when it actually meant something to move a point from one stat to another:

Str- lower initial carry weight, then add more per point of str, then put min STR values on the big guns

Per- without a high perception you're chance to hit with guns should drop off dramatically at long range. ie just because i have 100 in small guns I should not have a 70% chance to hit something out at the edge of my clip plane unless I have an 8+ perception

end- how much does this effect HP gain? doesn't seem to be much... make it more.

CHA- follower limit... people should mod in more followers, make them weaker (fawkes is just way too good im pretty sure the guy can solo deathclaws) then make the number of followers you can have based on your CHA

Int- fine as is (but more speech options as a smart guy would be nice, though everyone has said that)

agi- fine as is

luck- the was always more of a you better keep at least average (5) points here or else kinda thing. somehow it would be nice if critical weapon failures were modded in and if you had a really low luck value you would end up shooting yourself 15% of the time, or your gun would suddenly lose like 75-100% duribility.

2. Super Mutants need fixing:

someone needs to finish the super mutant story line. While its true FO2 had a whole bunch of quest lines that just dead ended, this is ridiculous its like something that almost every NPC will talk to you about but not a one has any answers. they all say "the super mutants are looking for something in the down town ruins". Though no one knows what... mod someone in who knows what... make it a quest to take whatever they are looking for from them. Additionally there need to be some mutants you can talk to aside from fawkes who are completely retarded. one of the bets parts of FO1/2 was being able to outsmart the mutants. Also they are all carrying hunting rifles... wtf... their hands are supposed to be too big for small guns, they should all be strapping big guns which leads me too...

3. Guns:

there aren't enough big guns, tactics had enough... where is the M60 or the SAW

Additionally the hunting rifle needs to suck more, that was only a gun you were to be using early game when it was the best you could find, i found myself using it all the way up until level 17 when I finally decided to get taken to raven rock and plasma weapons where everywhere. the solution to this is nerf the crap out of the hunting rifle and but make it share ammo with the sniper rifle... and just for kicks implement the Gauss rifle because that thing was badass. In general maybe have less classes of ammo so we can actually use some of our favorite guns from time to time... the magnum is utter crap simply because I can't find ammo for the thing.

Maybe I'm just paranoid but I'm pretty sure the hunting rifle actually has better long distance hit chances than the sniper rifle, how the hell does that work?

In short... screw the hunting rifle.

3. Skills:

the repair skill really needs to be worth less. It's like absolutely mandatory you max that one out or at least get it to 80. there are several ways to fix this, either make all things break slower and only have major damage to guns when you get critical luck failures, or put more people who can repair things well (best I've found is the armor caravanner and hes the only one) out there in the wasteland.

Additionally (separate repair issue) the player should be able to repair crap without an exact gun match. the game pretty much forces you to play with 3 guns before the enclave arrival: hunting rifle, assault rifle, combat shotgun. I wanna use em all when I feel like it need mods to make most most pistols repair each other and most rifles repair each other. (and most armor).

then we get to stealth... how freaking useless is sneak even with a stealthboy on people can pick you out w/o much problem, I realize there are a lot of factors that play into this one but come on, I found myself never using this.
