Dude. You seriously think Fleischer's work as an animator is bad?

Now enjoy the cartoons. Even if they aren't old-school old-school.

Did... I say I didn't enjoy them? I mentioned my idea of "old school" cartoons. That doesn't imply I don't enjoy everything that doesn't fall under that criteria.

Chillax :*

Pink Panther

One of my favourites to this day. I loved the lack of dialogue coupled with the getting-run-over-by-automobile sound effect.

EDIT: Any of you seen the "Private SNAFU" shorts? Pure gold.

Barbapapa
Beany and Cecil
Belle and Sebastian
Captain N: The Game Master (Nintendo cartoons)
Charlie Brown and The Snoopy Show
Dungeons and Dragons
Droids: The Adventures of R2-D2 and C3P0
Dragon's Lair
The Ewoks
G.I. Joe
He-man
It's Punky Brewster
The Legend of Zelda
M.A.S.K.
The Mighty Orbots
Mr. T
Mysterious Cities of Gold
Q*Bert
Rambo
Sport Billy
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Transformers
UFO Robo Grendizer/Grendizer/Goldorak
Ulysses 31
Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light

Seems like a lot, but I rarely watched tv, only on weekends, I mostly played G.I joes & tonka trucks outside with friends.

Uhm... yeah. Betty Boop ain't too bad, but it's not my thing. Pretty retarded stuff, actually.

"Old-school" cartoons that make Fleischer look like crap:
- pretty much everything by Ernest Pintoff (especially Flebus, The Violinist and The Old Man and The Flower)

- again, pretty much everything that left the Ray Patin studios
- Playhouse Pictures commercial cartoons like "Energetically Yours"
- la linea (Osvaldo Cavandoli's masterpiece)

- "Rover Boys" by John Hubley
- Christopher Crumpet + other UPA productions from those days, they rock so hard it's unbelievable (lots of them on youtube, watch them all, you won't regret it)

But that's not old-school enough for you, is it? I would call those modern cartoons, actually, even though some of them go back to the fourties. In any case, they're way better than Fleischer, if you ask me. Simplicity is such a beautiful thing. But all in all: it's personal taste, I guess. Fleischer was a true pioneer, but I like the style from the 50's a whole lot more. And no "nasal sounds" à la Fleischer cartoons, those are the nastiest things to reach one's ears when watching Fleischer.

EDIT: here's a Hubley commercial, pretty much in the same style as Rover Boys

Damn, I'm so glad someone brought this up. I never knew YouTube was so jam-packed with this kind of stuff... :D

You guys will love this as well, I think:

What's fun is that I can easily identify folks my age by the cartoons they watched growing up. Spider Friends & The Incredible Hulk were awesome. The rest of you are a bunch of young f@$&*! :)

Puh-lease. When I saw the title of this thread, I thought you guys meant real old school cartoons.

Old WW2 WB cartoons and anything by Max Fleischer, king of all kings.

Booboobeedoop!

Sorry comrade. Old school to me is when I was a kid. I see your point though. If I was to name every cartoon I ever liked I would have to name Woody Woodpecker,Loony Toons, and Scooby Doo among countless others. I was just trying to list the few I REALLY liked when I was a kid.

Hulk smash, good times.
Super Friends was good too on a marvelously corny level, especially when the Legion of Doom appeared.

I'm not ashamed to admit I loved me some Smurfs back in the day. Hefty was my role-model, all buff with the tattoo.

Groovie Ghoulies
Good call.

I still enjoy watching the soviet cartoon Nu Pagadi. Although I can see some parts being total rip-offs of American cartoons. Regardless that Wolf is a badass.

Teh woots! Goodies from alec.

K, let's not go all Sander on the definition of "old school". Whenever I hear that adjective, I think of old, classic milestones of a genre.

I guess you could call Jay-Z an "old school rapper" without any idea of say, Grandmaster flash & the furious five.

Whuuuuevah!
