OOC- Zombie Apocalypse Chapter 2- General Discussion

Yes, I guess we're about halfway through the chapter - if that. One major update per week is the slowest I'd go. My next one will probably be on Saturday. I don't have much time during the week anyway.

More players would be good. Laraqua may be joining us eventually, but she'll need to catch up first. She's been very busy the last few months, but she said she'll have more free time starting this week.

I know Laraqua's starting a new game - I'm in it (as is SuAside), and I think it's going to be great! :) I had mentioned to her in the recruitment thread for Ash that if she was interested in joining Zombie Apocalypse, the characters that she wanted are all available, alive, and well (at least for now). She does still want to join, and she said she might be able to after her exams are over. Whether or not she joins will depend on if she has enough time.

I've had Zombies!!! for about eight years now. I bought it when it was a Journeyman Press game and it only cost $20. It's a fun game, but it can go on for a very long time (especially with more players) because the endgame can really bog down. I also bought expansions 2, 3, and 3.5 at Philcon a few years ago, but I haven't seen 4, 5, or 6.

I've never heard of Mall of Horror before, but it looks interesting.

EDIT: We have a new player: Muff is joining the game! Muff has been reading the story all along and so only needs to choose characters before joining in.

WHy is no one posting in the IC thread?

Has everyone gotten eaten by a zombie or are we merely waiting for Steve and Stompie?

Might be a good chance to Steve's Jim to start looking more into that journal..
(hint!)

Sorry Welsh. I've been bugging out constantly. Trying to find an apartment down south. San Diego is a VERY expensive city. All I've found for less than 550/mo. are un-liveable. (Fixer-uppers to the twelth power.) been driving down and back three times in the last week. Good 24 houers in a freaking car, with three others.

Welcome back, Stompie! I hope you find a good place in San Diego. Here in Philly apartments are generally even more than that. It might be worthwhile staying there for a few days to look for apartments rather than going back and forth all the time.

I just updated the story tonight. I had written most of it Saturday night when the site died. It didn't come back up until just before I went out Sunday afternoon, so I had to wait until I got back to finish it. The next update will probably be at least a few days, and possibly not until Saturday, so you've got time to catch up.

I'll assume Jim will continue reading the journal until he finishes or Steve returns.

Hey Stompie-

You're right about San Diego being expensive. You might want to think about commuting in from one of the less expensive areas. It seems housing gets cheaper the further you distance yourself from the sea.

You might also want to consider living with students. There should be some affordable student areas where you might be able to share a house with some grad students. Might save you a few sheckles.

Note that if Kimberly is immune than she's going to be a priority individual. She may hold a secret to limiting the spread of the "infection." But note she can still be killed. Our zombies cantear a person limb from limb, and just because a person is immune from infection doesn't mean they are immune from being bitten. After all to a zombie, Kimberly is still a meal.

This should raise some issues-
(1) Should she come along on the helicopter ride?
(2) How is Warren AFB likely to deal with this development?
(3) How should the people at the T-Bone and the Motel deal with this?

Sound Advice, Welsh. Here's the Skinny. I received my high school diploma December (A semester early). I'm finishing this semester with three periods, electives. Jazz, Symphonic, and Orchestra. (Only reason I'm still in nor-cal, actually.)

Ive been working since last may, hoarding cash so that I can move out when the time comes. Myself, and three other friends are planing to go the route of ROTC, POST, Armoury, and General Ed, Foreign languages (Ming, Cambodian, or Mandarin) all through a small community college in central San-Diego. We've been friends since elementary school.

We've procured a Hybrid, which is an excellent car, for the simple reason that we were able to make it down past LA and back up to Redding a few times on just over 240 bucks. Pooled between the four of us, is rather inexpensive for the miles traveled.

Hey Stompie- not sure what the ROTC programs are like in San Diego. Any chance at UC San Diego (in beautiful La Jolla?)

There are a few other programs you might wish to try. Foreign language training like that is still desired by offices of the US National Security establishment. I would avoid Arabic though unless you want to spend a lot of time in the dust and scorpions.

It sounds like a plan. Overall, your best bet might be to share a house, probably a bit distant from the coast. I liked Encinitas, but you might have a better chance at Oceanside- its right outside the Marine base and the rents are probably cheaper. Its distant from San Diego and you'll have to take 5 to San Deigo. But you are closer to the beach. Otherwise it seems that the further away from the shore the cheaper your rents. El Cajon?

When we were in La Jolla we met a girl who had moved there and was paying a lot for rent, but she was getting by as a waittress. Still, that was a few years ago.

Good ideas, Actually. I assume you lived in So-Cal?

We've thought about living near the Base, but that's quite a commute, day to day.

It's also important to note that just because someone's immune, it doesn't mean s/he isn't a carrier who may still be able to transmit the "infection" to others that are not immune.

So far only two players have posted. I'll only update tomorrow night if at least two more post by then; otherwise, I'll wait until Saturday. Muff, feel free to join in any time. If you don't post by the time I update, I can still keep running your characters until you're ready to start.

I will most likely be posting later on today. I have been having problems with work that is why I haven't been able to post, Sorry. I will read through the rules and the last page of the story again I will post striate after.

No, just visited but at a time that my wife and I were thinking of moving. We still are. But its the housing prices that deter our enthusiasm for any relocations.

While we were there we stayed in Carlesbad, near Legoland and we didn't find the commute on I-5 to be that bad. Also, you have a nice coastal road. But I agree, Oceanside would be a long damn commute. If you are going to UC San Diego, its not so bad- you don't actually have to go into San Diego. If you decide to go to Orange County you are close to the highway and just have to go through the marine base.

Hi All,
Well for now I am back from DC! Did not find a job there although i have applied for like 40 so I may be going back and forth for job interviews in the next few weeks. I will not mind that if I get the job but if I look like I have fallen off the end of the earth or been eaten by a zombie then that is why. I will try to let you all know that I am leaving of course. So anything of interest happen lately in game? I pose I could read the backlog which I will do tonight. Let me know if you need anything ok? Talk to you all later

Muff, it's okay that you couldn't post earlier. Thanks for letting me know.

Welcome back, Steve! I'm sorry you haven't found a job yet, but I hope you get one soon. We've got two new players now. Helbent4 is playing Erica Spears, Max, and Lt. Angela Blanco. Muff is playing Azadeh, Dr. Brigetta Hausmann, and Airman Bruce Thayer.

As for what you've missed, McCain and Ortega are now guarding the helicopter, and McCain has been talking to Erica Spears for the last few minutes. Lewis is still helping move equipment; he is now with Lt. Malone and the others in the comm room, and they have just loaded the main unit onto the dolly. The snipers have eliminated all of the walkers from the west.

Jim Kerr managed to succeed at his First Aid roll and recovered his lost HP, and then he pried the grate open and found Duffy's journal. He is currently about halfway done reading it. Max the dog just entered the office. Alice is two turns away from finishing the repairs on her rifle. The zombie rats in the cell block were all killed before they could bite anybody, but Lynne shot herself in the calf trying to hit one, breaking her leg. She is now unconscious and being cared for by the doctors and Sally. Oh, and Kimberly just found a silencer in Lynne's purse.

There is no rush on posting for either you or Muff, as I'll wait until Saturday to update. Just catch up and post when you're ready. After this weekend I plan to go back to two updates per week, so if you're going to be away for a while, you should let me know and, if possible, leave standing orders for your characters.

what type of "silencer" are we talking about here btw? (type + calibre)

and please don't use the original CoC rules... they're moronic. most suppressors don't wear out that fast. a quality suppressor will last you about 30.000 to 50.000 bullets... although it is true some wear out after 4 magazines, but those aren't exactly popular for obvious reasons.

PS: a silencer is a hollywoodian error. it's a suppressor, not a silencer.

PPS: the slower the bullet, the easier to suppress. meaning a .45 is a lot easier to suppress than a 9mm. (and also looses less power in the process)

None of your characters are actually in the room, but the suppressor is for a pistol. As far as Kimberly can tell, it looks like it's made for either a .38 or a 9mm, but she's never seen one exactly like this. It looks custom made and high quality, though.
