PC Gamer's In Depth Look at Tyranny

I'm not even sure why you bothered trying to even communicate with that abomination. I hope it didn't infect you with any diseases from your brief time near it.

I'm almost tempted to go blast that guy but it's from 4 months ago and I hate necro'ing threads. "plenty of evil decisons" my fucking ass, there's only 9 in the whole game. I've made a list about it before.
It's not worth bothering with BGS fanboys. Anyway Tyranny screen shot to get back on track.

While I think we may be able to oust Kyros I have a feeling Obsidian is going to troll us by making him a Demigod or some such shit, and almost invincible unless we have the stick of truth triple enchanted. I'm fully expecting it because it's the kind of dick move I would pull.

Personally I kinda hope that's the case too. As much as I love how we can kill Caesar in New Vegas the whole thing feels underwhelming if you go in there with 100 in guns, melee, or unarmed, which is pretty easily obtained before level 30 or even 20. His bodyguards barely put up a fight and Caesar himself may pack a hard whollop with his fist but he's a pushover once you manage to break through his DR. After that it's fairly easy to slaughter the rest of the camp if you have a lot of ammo given how most of the ones at The Fort are machete wielders and not gun wielders.

If we're going to take down this giant evil overlord, which I'm sure we'll be able to, I hope it's really difficult to do so. Kinda like fighting General Oliver at the end of a Legion run. He's much tougher to fight than Lanius, at least in my opinion. Mainly because Oliver has about 30 NCR Heavy Troopers with him, along with mine traps and laser tripwires, while Lanius has at most 3 praeotorans with power fists backing him up.

Too bad the only way to fight Oliver is by joining the Legion, I'd really like to fight him at the end of an evil Independent run, or at the very least have a choice between Oliver or Lanius.

I'm hoping we can make moves and gather allies for a full on coup, because what good is being evil if it isn't my brand of evil.

Well they've done it before with the Dam, I don't see why we wouldn't be able to do it again. Maybe if we get our reputations high enough within our faction/factionS we can convince them that Kyros isn't what's best for the world, WE are. Thus one by one we convince all these big allies of Kyros to slowly turn on him and eventually help us overthrow him so we can rule instead. It makes sense to me. What makes this scenario even more plausible is that we aren't just some random nobody in this game like say, the Courier in NV. We have a stake in the game's narrative before it even starts, we're basically one of the top Judges of the whole land. Thus people would be more likely to trust him to rule than the Courier. The Courier has to do a ton of convincing before people will actually side with him. In Tyranny there may be less convincing given our position.

I fully intend on making my first character a "true to Kyros" type when he's within earshot and a "Kyros has to go type" in the world at large. My hope for this game is that Obsidian has anticipated the things the player will do to overthrow Kyros and put things in place to completely fuck them over, because deep down I'm a masochist.

I hope at the end Kyros tells your character that he's become too powerful and right before he gets murdered he keeps screaming, "but I was loyal."

He could pull a Caesar though. You know, where he goes off on that huge tyrade of all the shit you've done to the Legion and then acts like he's about to kill you, then he says "...Relax. I'm fucking with you." That was a fantastic moment.

Ah Caesar, if a mortal man hath done that joke I would hath slayed him but Caesar is alright, ya know?

After listening to that podcast it sounds like combat is unavoidable at certain points which is disappointing, I always love playing pacifist characters and, it would have been incredible to play as a pacifist sociopath that would have to deal with people by leaving them destitute and disgraced. Oh well, I can just leave combat to my companions I guess.

I doubt being a lawmaker makes you exempt from combat. Unless you're able to offer Kyros as revenge to some people, there's no way you're getting out of that fight.

There seems to also be some factions in the evil empire that might be against you even though you are part of that empire, so someone trying to murder you or crush you under their feet is pretty much impossible to avoid when you have some kind of power in an evil empire.

Then there are people that do not like being conquered and would take any chance they have to kill someone important that helped conquer them, resistance movement, just angry people, old soldiers from the defeated army, etc.

I couldn't imagine a game where you're a lawmaker/judge/whatever, for an evil empire where you could avoid being in battle always to be honest.

I didn't expect to avoid combat entirely, but he did say that the diplomatic type character would have different advantages even in combat like intimidating enemies to run away.

So I might still be able to play a pacifist character? Just one who is unusually aggressive and intimidating.
