PC gaming Alliance: "Game piracy is not that bad...&amp

But enough to support the action as a feasible income source.

-EDIT-

Especially if at least 25% of the population is forced to have it on permanently, regardless of preference due to their 'free game' antics, however MMOs make their money mostly on long time subscribers rather than initial game purchase, I don't know why they don't just give the client software away and get them to pay for the server time, it'd still give them a decent profit and they'd get far more market reach than anything else if they just gave it away.

Yeah, you're pretty right on that one.

Still it makes life somewhat more enjoyable, being able to escape the drabness of reality for a while and just be a cool space age or medieval hero, a wartime commander of mayor of a big city.

Somehow I have a ton of open source/freeware software on my comp despite that adware exist since a long time.

With all the copy-protection and anti-piracy registration games have nowadays, it's almost easier and better for the consumer to download an illegal copy.

Cracks are made by other gamers to be easy to use and generally user-friendly. I've had more hassle with the copy-protection that comes with many bought games than with an illegal copy that I crack. Also, I don't have to haul ass to the store.

Developers/publishers usher the gamer towards piracy. Also, pirates are naturally always one step ahead. There should be other, more indirect means. A less money-horny industry would probably help, but that's obviously not going to happen.

Agreed. I had to download cracks to get several games to work because of problems with their anti-piracy programs. I had Crysis tell me that my disc was unauthorized 90% of the time. I had to plan way ahead to play that damn thing. The only solution to that was to find a No-CD crack. Don't get me started on Bioshock's and Valve's copy protection crap. There is never a good reason to pirate stuff but those things really push my buttons at times.

Returning a faulty product to store usually solves problems with it.

Forced as in if they want to play it they cannot turn it down/off in order to pay for their online experience.

By the way, a tad off topic, but which comic is that space marine from? I don't quite recognize the helmet style but the back powerpack / cogitator is quite familiar...

Almost looks like a Raptor mask now that I think of it...

I realize that, smart dude. Returning a product is not always an option or even easy, however. Also, if it's not a problem with that particular copy, which in my case it mostly isn't, then returning it won't enable you to play the game. If you want to play it, you have to mess around with shady downloads, sometimes.

1st edition rulebook. From times before they added Horus Heresy, Chaos and before they retconned Space Marines from Space Super Soldiers to Darkbaroquegothiceldritchknights.

You are paying them for being treated like that, so practically you're asking for it.

I'm not paying them for being treated like anything, I'm paying them $50 to play their game. If a movie I really wanted to watch didn't work, I could take the dvd back and not watch it but I probably wouldn't and go for whatever solution available to watch it. The point was that anti-piracy programs made games unplayable for some, thus, pushing them towards piracy. We are all well aware that there is also a choice to take those games back most of the time, the fact that it's not always the choice or a possibility remains.
