Playing Fallout 1/2 using Tactics Engine

was referring to the game, and not you in person or any part of your dealings with "the management"

Then I apologize... nothing personal in any way, I will post changes & up-dates on the web-site and our forum... Feel free to buzz in from time to time.

EDIT: To clear things up... I don't have any problem with the management... Just people who think they can say anything they like without any form of decentcy.

This is one funny thread. Oh yes, it is. :P

[A] I can't see how FO and FO2 would benefit from such a remake (they are brilliant games as it is, and that has less to do with the graphics than with the excellent gameplay).

The biggest problem would be dialogue, and although I know that modders could probably sail round this somehow, it just wouldn't be the same thing.

[C] What about the talking heads?

[D] What about combat? FO and FO2 are strictly turnbased, FOT is a hybrid in which the turnbased option isn't really balanced. Actually, I had way more fun playing FOT in continuous TB mode (realtime), since the individual TB mode was sooooooooooooooooo tiresome.

[E] And what about the npc's? Using FOT you are bound to get a squad, and that's something different, isn't it?

You are right on the talking heads... it would be a problem...

Though the Turnbased options might be modified... this is not the problem... If for some reason someone whould make a mod for FOT, it would purely be based on the graphics cause you're right on the fact that it's a brilliant game on it's own.

Snake]Hmmm... I wouldn't dare to say anything now... YEAH RIGHT...

What's you're problem Roshambo, because you are a moderator (correction: Admin) doesn't mean you have to treat people the way you do...

I will when they show numerous disregards to the forum structure and expect people to clean up after them.

EDIT: Which you've done again since you've posted in this thread.

WTF Man, you could just send me a PM when I posted into the wrong topic...

Why? I already told you what I would do if you did it again.

EDIT: And look what happened. Another thread went to the Vats.

Sorry Bro, you can't seem to talk to people in a decent way, maybe you should have just asked me when something went wrong...

It's not my fault you're an idiot who needs to be told multiple times for the message to get through. I'm sure I could have PM'd you, but after this, it's really doubtful as to if it would have done any good, either.

That's the point, you apparently didn't notice the time I warned you, along with the additions to the rules of the forum that were there in spirit with the forum for some time (and it should be obvious as to which forum is for what). I just went ahead and made it really obvious, for what good it did since people like you barely noticed. Hell, would you notice a 2x4 across the back of the head? Has that worked in the past?

Yet, no, like some little netnewbies you both post in the wrong forums and then think that you're special and should be allowed to cross-post. Sorry, you haven't earned that privilege here, so leave that for your own forums. Yes, those where the record is 3 people online at the same time, with currently 1 post that is not by yourself or by another member of your team. Well, one post made by an obvious moron who couldn't bother to think within the scope of Fallout's universe.

EDIT: Correction. I would like to note that the aforementioned moron is a member of your team. Congratulations!

And I could have responded in a decent way back... Hey Bro, you can talk to me fair, you can keep it decent, or you don't talk to me at all... I simply don't listen to people trying to get me down... I know better...

That has got to be the most hilarious thing I've heard on the forum all year. No, correction, it's the most unbelievably stupid. You can drop the act that this is a big surprise to you.

EDIT: Please close this forum, I don't like to go into discussion about nothing...

Why close the forum?

FOT mods that never were...

Well, let's just treat this as a question, since I am ignorant:

Isn't the FOT engine powerful enough to redo Fallout 1 & 2 (except dynamic dialog might be a stretch)

It cetainly sounds easier to mod, so subsequent 'mods' for Fallout 1 & 2 might be easier to make and less buggy. The main reason I ask is because I would like to play Fallout 1 & 2 where I can control my party members; so if this 'ruins' the game play for others out there, I can understand that. The FOT engine is 'prettier' to me in all respects, but (as with my Diablo 1 & 2 experience) grid systems for player and npc movement can be a fun, simple way of attacking each problem you face in missions and random encounters. So, finally, how come no one has made a Fallout 1 or 2 remake using FOT? (I am honestly curious about limitations that are known or any thing else that has thwarted such a project)

Playing FO1 or FO2 without dialog would would be like Rambo without a big gun, it just aint right :)

If you could find a way to modify the FOT engine to allow for dialog then it would be more plausable I guese. But the IanOut project might be a better option to convert FO1 and FO2 into as it already supports the FO1 & FO2 art formats

Another problem is that you cannot recycle the old character graphics.

I think you meant "without".

You can do a very primitive type of yes/no dialogue using interaction with the environment, but that system would not be anywhere close to the original Fallouts and would take you years to do a similar thing. If you do have the patience to use very inefficient systems, it is still possible to have a bastardized dialogue system in FOT. So you could try to make a Fallout RPG. The only problem is that you are limited by the scripting that is already available.

Some of the problems I encountered when considering such a project were: no (easy) dialogue, no attribute rolls (vital in an RPG), many bugs and a huge amount of work.

Still, if you are determined enough, you can still create something that could be quite interesting and playable. You just have to ask your self if it is worth it. You might as well take advantage of the combat orientated engine or try the other Fallout Modding projects.

I figured it would be that damned dynamic dialog (DDD), but as far as the graphics being left out from the previous engine(s) would only bother me since there would be no dogmeat sprite ( *cry* ). The rest I could live with being different (higher res and bit-depth and all :] ). Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

Like I say, Check out the IanOut Forum here at NMA as it can use FO graphics and I think it will support higher resultion graphics. Also I am currenty converting most of the critters from Tactics to FO format, so all of these should be able to be used in IanOut

okay.. I don't why you did this:

but if you misunderstood me, my previous post was my way of saying, "Thank you, I believe this covers the topic I started."

If you want to plug IanOut that badly, that's your prerogative; and just to let you know, I have tried IanOut out. It was laggy as 90% of anything I have played on this machine, but I am going to wait for a new version or two (or a sytem upgrade) to worry about it since no full-size projects have been completed on it to my knowledge.
