Playing New Vegas after fallout 2

Primm : at one point the casino and the hotel ( i think ) were working , and we know the traders from the 188 were there too . So it was kind of a major settlement . Now it's dying , even when you get the casino working again
Care to show us where you get that Primm is dying, even after you restore the casino? The ending slides says otherwise. Mostly it prosper.

Well , ok . Same with goodsprings . But while you're there there's nothing really going on. I think i remember the people in the casino telling me that they're trying to make primm prosperous again by opening the casino , but that's not something you see in game . The general atmosphere of the place while you're there is not that of a lively town , which is totally fine ( well written and all ) but like i said i personally missed the towns of the old games . The feeling that i had when walking to a new town was that i was entering an active place , full of possibilities .

Wait, wut? But the casino did re-opened. Of course, you did to trigger it by coming back to the casino 3 in-game days later to meet the NCR's deserters, kill them or tell them to leave, and then leave and return back to the casino another 3 in-game days later, and voila! The casino re-open. On top of that, at night, the Primm's residents would return to their houses to sleep.

Primm's condition is the result of the shitty Gamebryo engine and content being cut. Heck, they even have their own reputation cut from the final game.

Of course . That's not what i meant . I meant you never really see the town being prosperous and lively , even with the casino open . There are still corpses around , very few people , the hotel is closed etc . It's while i was gambling there that the people actually told me that they're opening the casino in the hope of restoring primm to prosperity and , at the time , the place still felt kind of deserted to me ( the only place of interest being the half-empty casino )

just to clarify , i'm not complaining about this at all and i believe that , even though the guys at obsidian had little time and left some things unfinished , everything makes sense the way we see it . I just miss towns like klamath or the den , full of places to visit

If i remember correctly , the barman tells you that boulder city was full of life ( workers ) until the works stopped at quarry junction
Possibly, but at the time you visit it's dead because of the bombs they rigged. Still, it's a show of good world building that they thought through how these towns were before the events of the game.

edit: Also, engine limitations aside, the whole point of these places being near-dead is to reinforce how dangerous this area is right now, with the Legion making serious inroads and the NCR struggling to cope. Sure, they're not as lively as they should be because lolBethesda'sEngineSucks, but it's also an intentional thing.

There's no evidence that it 'prospers'.
Primm Slim made Sheriff, and then finished the game while supporting any faction but the Caesar's Legion
Primm Slim proves to be an able-minded, if not able-bodied, sheriff for Primm. Due to his slow speed, some crooks get away without a scratch, but Primm continues to prosper under his watchful robotic eye

So just Primm Slimm?
Should also be when you assign Meyers (though some people will be gone missing), and also when you let the NCR bring law and order for them (albeit under heavy taxes). There are many variations, depends on who you assign as law in Primm, and who you supported in the end. At least in some of those variations, Primm Slim while going Mr. House or Independent seemed the best.

Independent isn't a lot different from Mr House is it? That says a lot.

There's also a Legion Take Over ending for Primm. First, you have to make Primm join the NCR. Secondly, you have to leave Caesar alive. If Lanius takes over, Primm gets burnt to the ground. If you annex Primm to the NCR and leave Caesar alive while beating the game as the Legion, you get an ending slide that basically states:

"Despite NCR's pledge to support Primm, they abandon the town after their loss to Caesar. Though Caesar keeps Primm open for business, its citizens live under the constant watch of Legion soldiers."

It's actually one of the few Legion ending slides where they don't destroy anything belonging to the NCR.

Yeah, this also. Too bad we can't somehow convince some of the settlements to submit to Caesar *sigh*

Actually there's a mod that allows the Legion direct control, has an ending slide as well.

Another thing i really miss is the encounters , which i guess weren't included due to lack of time .

On a sidenote , i just used freeside open for the first time and the town is now worthy of new reno !

Freeside Open (and The Strip Open) makes that whole area more pleasant to quest in. I have a fast SSD and even I get tired of the constant loading screens in Freeside, lol. On the other hand, Freeside Open is also insanely hard going on even reasonably high-end GPUs. Shame the game wasn't designed as 64bit... but meh, consoles. Always holding things back.

Currently replaying fallout 1 and i think the dialogues overall seem MUCH more witty and clever than New Vegas. That is to say they're brilliant .

Another thing that's totally gone from New Vegas is the obscure violence . Funny unexpected things can happen from time to time , but no one would casually rip off your eye after agreeing he can take something from you . This sort of hilarious and dark writing is totally lost i think .

Fallout New Vegas is more serious but it lacks the dark humor in Fallout 1/2.
