Please help me understand Bethesda's decisions

Can you imagine how a Pen and Paper session would be with him?

Todd, you're out of your role again ... you can't just use a nuclear bomb at the Demogorgon ...you're a bard for fucks sake. And no, viollence is not always funny ...

I would imagine him to be more like my friend (who happens to be a fan of Bethesda who's shit at even trying to defend it) when he tried pen and paper roll playing. First thing he did, was a barrel roll. And for the rest of the session he just kinda half didn't give a crap and did random things without thinking too much into them. Honestly, if he kept playing I bet eventually he would've gotten himself killed.

Well, to be fair Role Playing was always a niche. It became kinda very popular with PC games or games in general. But even today, I would say RPGs still are a niche. The kind of RPGs where you have to deal with many limitations. Like you typically see in DnD or other PnP systems in general. People don't like those, because they are to much about 'numbers' and 'reading', and don't get me even started on turn based. But well, that is what RPGs often are about! Even Diablo ...
I know this sounds kinda extreme, but for me games like Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and the like, are really more simply action games, then RPGs. That doesn't mean they can't be very entertaining!
