Portal 2

Each to their own game play. If someone feels the need to sprint through the entire game to the end…I say good luck to them. (I confess I enjoy watching speed runs - Half-Life 2 for PC/Xbox (1:36:57)). Personally I prefer to slow the pace and explore the world thoroughly. That’s why my times generally for most games would be considered slow.

That's totally what it is and this is basically my style as well. I approached every section slowly and often reloaded sections because, well, they were a lot of fun. A good friend of mine would disagree with me as he would claim that reloading, replaying parts, or just moving slowly just breaks the flow of the game. It makes sense and sometimes I prefer to speedrun though games but not most of the time. HL2 and its episodes have so many little details that are fun to pay attention to (for example the medical vocabulary of the overwatch or the eastern European architecture) and versatile combat situations that can be replayed in a variety of ways so I always liked playing it slowly and thoroughly.

HL2 is easily the longest FPS I've ever played.

I recommend Far Cry (only the first one). Now that's a pretty long FPS. It took me about 20 hours, which that was on middle difficulty ("Challenging") and with a quicksave cheat.

In general I always play on the most difficult setting (KingPin is the exception – on the hardest setting the game is impossible, one shot = death from a mean stocky bastard). When I find a game as engrossing as Deus Ex or Half Life I usually explore every nook and cranny, and typically it’s because I want to study every aspect of the game design. Naturally I will play them over and over. That reminds me I’m due for my annual Half Life 1 play through. I play the game once every year just to remind me why it’s up there amongst the greatest games of all time. I do recommend for avid HL1 lovers to watch the speed run (0:31:00) at http://speeddemosarchive.com/HalfLife.html - it’s magical.

I do this too. Tried this before? As soon as I found out about this I went and climbed all over the high roofs of Hong Kong and Hell's Kitchen.

Same here, I was just thinking about reinstalling Half-Life and Opposing Force earlier (Blue Shift isn't that good but I might do it). I'd just finished Deus Ex again recently and have been messing around with mods on it.

Yeah, I've seen it before. Pretty nicely done. :)

I love the way people bend the rules of the game, those shots are great. I just finished my annual Deus Ex play through, I only used the Dragon's Tooth Sword (once I obtained it) it’s a pretty lethal weapon (not against bots though). Next time I will practice my wall climbing skills with the grenade trick.

I've heard about this one, someone said it's longer than Deus Ex itself. I think it warrants a download so I might try it out later.

Should I play The Nameless Mod with Shifter or should I go back to vanilla settings for it? The Shifter mod is pretty nifty.

That would be wise. the source engine is kinda old by todays standards

I don't know if this has been mentioned on this board but Valve released an update that 'implements' the Source engine used in EP2 in both HL2 and EP1. Still the Source engine but a very nice 'update' none the less IMO. They also implemented the xbox360 achievements .

I had a ton of fun exploring in Red Faction. I don't see many people talk about that game but I thought it was one of the best ps2 games, and ended up being a pretty great shooter for a console.

I couldn't play it on the ps2 because the analog sticks were shit for playing FPS.

You guys should give Redneck Rampage a try!

Watched the E3 demo for this, and can't wait. The new gels look cool, and it looks, on the whole, more complex than the first.

Should be good...

I love when GLADoS says "We both said things you're going to regret."
