My theory is that the Lone Wanderer and the Sole Survivor are the same person.
I don't need my own evidence though, I'm sure @CT Phipps could make up an excuse for me. Please?

The Lone Wanderer was kidnapped by the Institute and false memories implanted in his brain taken from the braindead but well-preserved body of the Sole Survivor. Elder Maxson recognized the Lone Wanderer and believed he was suffering amnesia or choosing to hide his identity, hence his rapid promotion through the ranks. Ultimately, the Sole Survivor was shocked out of his delusion by Shaun's death.

At this point, it would be more groundbreaking to have a pre-war corporation that WASN'T committed to needlessly and nefariously fucking with it's consumer base.

The evil corporation trope is getting really rusty, I agree.
Play Alien Isolation. Game is very interesting in this aspect in particular, especially if you have seen the Alien trilogy and know a bit about Weyland Yutani. Let's just say that for once, things are a bit more realistic and complicated than with Umbrella-Vault Tek-Corp.
