Power Armor Design

The power suit helmet would not work well because to make a good imitation you would need the small eye openings, which would not be good for a motorcycle.

The combat armor has a helmet similar to a 3/4 round motorcycle helmet.

I am sure there is a better image of what it looks like. Downside to the combat helmet is it looks generic.
 
I second what serbaside said. On top of that, it will look pretty dorky. Unless you intend on making the whole suit. Which would be cool. But I doubt you'd want to have it on while your riding.

For combat armor, spend 140 bucks on a real kevlar surplus helmet(the old style that the US army is getting rid of). Grab a riot face mask thingy(you can buy them separately. I think they are something like 70 bucks) and cut it down to size on a band saw. Sand off the edges and there ya go. DO NOT PAINT directly onto a kevlar helmet. I've heard it can weaken it.

Great find, the "MICH-style" helmet ($ 490 - 515) looks damn close, must have been what they based the design on.

After thinking about it if you were to use a helmet like that the motorcycle it self would have to compliment it. Riding with one of those on some crotch-rocket would just look strange.

Made a suit of Fallout looking combat armor? Worn it to some scifi convention? If so do you have pics?
 
I wonder if anyone would make a Advance Power Armor/Power Armor Costume, I would so do anything to buy it...Reminds me of Dudes in StormTrooper outfits :oops:

I've always been frustrated by the lack of decent reference shots for T51-b Armor, especially when it comes to full body and rear angle detail. Even the concept art is of little help on the subject.

I had a friend once who went on to work for Weta Workshop, but before he hit the bigtime and moved to Sheep Island, he had extended to me a standing offer to do a sculpt of almost anything I could dream up for scarcely more than the cost of materials. A lack of detailed reference pics is the only reason I don't currently have a 2-foot-high Brotherhood paladin standing on my coffee table :|

There've been some very decent 3d fan renderings of Fallout 1&2 PA and helmets in detail, even if a lot of the detail work was extrapolation. All my Fallout links aside from NMA are broken with age, but I'm sure you could find them on DeviantArt or with a Google image search if you dug.

(As far as Urlag's helmet goes, it's really quite an accomplishment, even if it does look slightly out of proportion. I have a feeling that it'll look a lot less so when and if we get to see it resting atop a beefy chestpiece and some armored shoulderpads, though.)
 
Well, FO's power armor was problamatic even during the creation of the game, IIRC, largely due to the the lack of reference material.

Also, that helmet doesn't look horrible, but it does look like it's made of tin metal.
 
If you really plan on going Hardcore on making a T51-B Costume you would need the resources of a Moviemaker Props man. A "Real" Power Armor can be realized... :wink:
 
Combat Armor

With some plastic, sylicon, cloth (is that the right word?) and a motorbike helmet, its "easy" do make a combat armor, don't? I think i could do it in 1 month with some help from friends and materials. :) Just a idea, i don't want anyone sending sylicon to my house! :D

Damn I wish I had the help of friends and materials... :P

But this topic is more about the power armor more than about the combat armor (which is indeed a lot easier to make). To make a real power armor will be a lot of work and if you really want to make one out of metal you probably will also have to use the hydraulics, which require a lot of electronics to fully function. It would give it a totally realistic look though.

Perhaps we're better off with just a couple of sheets of aluminium:P
 
You could try looking for a local organization that does historical reenactments. (I know there are some in the US and Japan, not sure about Europe.) They have people who make medieval-style armor such as plate mail. While power armor is larger than what the usually make, they should be able to help with it.
 
Those Historical Reenacters can do it, problem is we don't have enough reference to give them a Blue Print of some sort.

The only possible thing to re-create are the helmets. I could try and draw a turnaround of the armor, but loads of detail will be lost, since the only full-sized views are the sprites.
 
Someone should make the Power Armour it wouldn't be too hard if you knew someone who was a metal fabricator its just the tools that you would need that would be the hard part the rest is just time but with the right tools you could easily make one just use 1mm sheet metal that way its light but easy to work with :D
 
Shaping metal into functional armour is an art, it's not easy. There are less than hundred people in the world who can do it for a living, and the prices are thereafter, here's one of them: http://www.living-history.no/
Making a power amour is something you can forget, unless you're disgustingly rich...
 
It doesn't require that much work considering alot of the work is actually in the helmet and it doesn't need to be functional so you don't need the design to be perfect the reason why there is only a small amount of people who can make armour is because is had to stop a sword or arrow this armour is pure show there for can be made out of cheap quality steel. no function is needed doesn't need to be made the same
