Prequel by Ridley Scott to Aliens 1979

Untitled Alien Prequel

Yaay !

Anyone else excited ? One of my favourite movies and franchises will see again the cinema but this time as real movie and not as AvP-just-to-get-your-money-crap. Sadly 20 fox is involved again (what surprise ...) but it could be worse. At least Scott is responsible for it. The scribt is not finished yet and the movie wont see probably a start before 2011 but so far its clear that it will be a Prequel to Alien from 1979.

many old names included like

Director:
Ridley Scott

Writers:
Dan O'Bannon (characters)
Ronald Shusett (characters)

Cant say when I have been the last time that excited about a movie even though its probably jumping on this prequel bandwagon ... but the fuck I dont care ! I want new xenomorphs on the screen ! But in good quality please !

I liked Alien & Aliens, so yeah, I'm looking forward to it. I'm however NOT getting my hopes up.

Prequels suck. I've never seen a good prequel. Ever.
Its at least a new direction. Really there are not many options. Either do a new movie like Alien 5, with a almost 70 year old Sigourny Weaver (not very epic ...) or another piece of crap similar to AvP and for that matter I would prefer no new movie at all. Better to let the franchise rest in peace.

A prequel gives a chance to do something new without the need of characters like Ripley in a way where it makes sense. From the first movie it seems likely that the signal which forced the crew to look for the planet was already known. At least the book to the movie mentiones that they had a very clear understanding of the message from the alien ship to be a warning before they have decided to send the Nostromo cargo for investigation which thought about the message to be a SOS.

All it needs are good actors and a really good script. I agree the potential for it to suck is high. But jesus ... I am usualy that bitter around movies and games in particular. Is it wrong to feel one time ... happy ?

Not trying to be picky but the 1976 movie was Alien. Aliens was the sequel.

Wrong. There's such a thing called "franchise reboot". We don't need Sigourney Weaver for that.

Of course, this raises the question... will a franchise reboot possibly surpass the 2 original films ? (3 and 4 are dead to me, just to be clear)

The answer is most likely "no, it will not".

So perhaps the franchise should just be left alone.

So are we gonna see a whiny teenage facehugger grow up to become the ultimate evil in the Galaxy complete with "funny" sidekicks?
Maybe it will be good if it somehow retcons Alien 3 and 4.

YAAM - Yet Another Alien Movie. How many do we need? Can't they come up with something new already? Or take another sci-fi story as the basis for the plot at least?

On a positive side - just keep Adam Sandler and Will Smith out and it will probably be at least bearable.

exactly what I think as well. With any other director I would be worried but I have the feeling that Scott might push this in the right direction. He seems not to be afraid to battle 20 fox since he managed to double the budget for Alien from I think 6 to 13 Million ( which was a lot for that time ).

Now all I need is a verification that Giger is again on board and we might see a great movie.

So you're saying it's also a prequel to Aliens?!?!

What? I'm saying that the 1976 movie was called the Alien, not Aliens.

I wish people would stop doing prequels and sequels and remakes and just let genres stick with the one or two good movies instead of trying to rehash the same old shit.

I love Alien and Aliens. If I want to watch it, i'll watch those two. Not some prequel that wasn't originally visioned and will most likely be as sub par as prequels and sequels usually are.

There have been some great sequels and prequels and even remakes. I have nothing against them when they're done right.

Well, the franchise doesn't really need her. What it needs are aliens and a good story that isn't just an excuse for a massacre.

And new directions? What about the damn space-jockey? Why not making a story that shreds some light on the alien race that messed with the xenomorphs first?

Still...Alien prequel and Gostbusters 3? Let's hope for the best.

thats what they might do in that prequel give a bit more light on the space jockey. Though I hope they dont try to explain "everything". If you dont have at least some parts of a story that leaves you something to think about its not that entertaining in my eyes.

Weaver is 61 years old at the moment - she doesn't look that old yet. I can see her being in some sort of a mentor position in a new aliens movie...

Well wouldn't be as fucking weird as the new indiana gramps movie.
