Looks interesting. I also like that you play as a diseased person, which sortof... adds a feeling of weakness to the player.

Nice weathering effects. I'm not a fan of the footsteps audio, though, and it doesn't always seem to line up with movement.

I was thinking the same about the footsteps, but assuming it was some temporary measure.

well I have yet to see a game that is creating a "realistic" radiation and effects. Hell, not even movies get it right most of the time. Truth is, in most cases, unless you get a really unhealthy dose of radiation, you will notice the effects only hours after the radiation hit you. In some cases it might take weaks or months before you notice some effects. Its rather complicated I guess.

Browsing nuclear accidents, I did come across one instance of a guy working in a nuclear plant, managing to accidentally tilt a barrel filled with radiated liquid all over himself. Horror-movie stuff. He died soon after, in a matter of days, if I remember correctly. He was also sick as a pig, and died horribly and in pain :D

The type of radiation emitted (x-ray, alpha, beta, gamma, neutron), the radioactive material and how you're exposed to it are sort of key factors in how you'll react, as far as I know.

I had some radioactive material in my lab (uranyl acetate) but the glass bottle it was in was enough to prevent radiation from damaging anything. Skin, itself, is sufficient to block most of the radiation that comes from this compound. If I ate it, that would be a different story.

you are correct. There are many different forms of radiation and Gama rays are dangerous because its hard to protect your self from them. Alpha and Beta particles are much easier to shield from. Alpha particles can be stoped by a sheet of paper for example.

But the effects of radiation on the human body are still rather complex. There are enough stories about people that got a very high dose of radiation but survived without problems like some people that worked in the plant of Tschernobyle for example when the accident happend while others died very fast or had to deal with cancer in their later years while a small group of people didnt.

Games like Fallout lower your stats or make you lose health (F3). Thats of course just to show that its "dangerous" to walk there. But I guess it would be really difficult to create realistic effects of radiation. Seeing your character vomit every 10 min might not be so great.
