Racism?

Hey, give us a break.

I mean on 24 we've had two black presidents so far.
Ok, so that's a fantasy, but....

According to certain Blacks, Obama isn't Black enough.

Hmmmm......

I see a McCain/Guilliani ticket from the Republicans. I'd put money on unless we're still in Iraq. Since we'll still be in Iraq in 2008 (and 2010), then I suspect the Democrats have a good chance at winning even with a HIllary/Obama ticket.

Quality? You guys expect quality?
Like that happened in 2004?

Quality? You guys expect quality?

No, mr. Welsh. We expect you to vote Ahnold.

Yeah, and a black coach won dah supah bowahl!

I had a real hard time seeing Tony Dungy is black. I had to squint and sit about 10 feet away from the tv.

But hey, whatever works.

Clinton was.

Ok, I give up, the topic switches to presidential elections.

Obama is:
1. 1-dimensional, flat, devoid of any real opinions, giving long speeches that never say anything
2. Hyped too early
3. Black
4. Not black enough.

No chance.

How exactly do you see that happening while the Evangelicals hold sway?

Speaking of Evangelicals, where's CCR? I would have expected him to be all over this thread.

Remember Howard Dean?

Anyway, I don't know, I don't really see any great competition for Obama. Hillary is female, hated (a lot) and has the very significant disadvantage of not having thrown out her cheating husband.

I'd like to see Al Gore return. He could actually win this time.

Eh, it's not like Bush is mr. Evangelical, he just gets used like that. They'd use Giuliani like that as well.
Giuliani is a popular man, though.

The American political atmosphere sucks.

Too much emphasis on race/gender.

Then you should see the Swedish political agenda, where it's more important that the new leader of the biggest party is a woman than it is if it's the right person for the job...(and personally I would think that the persons abilities -regardless of race, sex or sexual preference- is what should matter)

If he* loses, people will say it's because he's black* and it was the "politcally correct" thing to do.

Maybe where you live, but here that would never be PC...instead they'd use it to prove that all swedes are racist bastards who couldn't stand seing someone other than white heterosexual men climb the ladder.

The PC have even drawn icecream before the DO (diskriminerings ombudsmannen...discrimination control board would prob. be what they'd be called in the english speaking world) to see if their names can be judged as discriminating and fall under the hatecrime laws...Ice cream for gods sake...

Just cleanse those southern rednecks in the United States, and the complete Republical party, and you'll never hear something about racism...

I don't see the problem. I am black myself, and well, I think you shouldn't nitpick on everything.

And completely massacre someone who's being a upright racist.

Since cleansing is what anyone called a racist is supposed to be for, what's the difference between your view and their? (that as long as the cleansing is done for something good it's ok...?)

I do agree that you shouldn't nitpick or for that matter bother in any way, shape or form whether it's someone gay, coloured, white or female, the person and the persons abilities is what should be judged...on their own basis.(and not how PC it is with one or the other and the reversed why they shouldn't be the correct person based on either of them)

denigrating

Racist.
Denigrating has actually a DIRECT parallel in portuguese, for instance, which, though it probably has a racist background (much like judiar - comes from jew and means bothering someone), it now has NOTHING to do with racist thoughts. Maybe in english it's the same case?

Anyway, this was taken out of context, since i can't read the news (or whatever that is).

Maybe where you live

Which is Terra (or "Earth" if you prefer).

but here that would never be PC...instead they'd use it to prove that all swedes are racist bastards who couldn't stand seing someone other than white heterosexual men climb the ladder.

Or maybe they'll use it to prove (to themselves) that he lost because it isn't proper to vote someone into a poweful position just because his ass is a certain colour. I mean, I really don't care who the first black, woman, Jew, gay, etc... president is/will be. That shouldn't matter. What should matter is how they plan to make our country better, and if they actually do if, or when, they're voted in.

Anyways, don't miss the point I was making, that race, sex, sexual preference, or even religion is a bullshit card to play in the game of politics, even if it works.

...Ice cream for gods sake...

You polytheistic heathen.

Ok...that explains it... :P
I should've been more clear though,I meant (which I'm sure you understood) "which country you live in".

Ok,I misinterprated what you were trying to say.(since you stated the same thing twice I think it's an easy mistake to make)
But s/he won't have try to convince him/her self about it,media and so on will be happy to do it for him/her...all according to what is PC here in Sweden.

I agree with your point, maybe I wasn't too clear -or just typed way too much to make sense- about it,but it's also what I think.
I mean,if a white, heterosexual man in his 40's is the one most suitable for the job,why shouldn't he have it?
Claiming that there are way too many of those in leading position and take someone not as suitable only because the person isn't the above makes no sense.(it may still be a white man in his 40's,but if he's gay it's a totally different thing...it's just hypocritical and leads nowhere...)

No. The gods demand blood on a regular basis. One should not anger the gods.

Or they'll make Hillary president.

Yeah, I'd heard about that. And the whole feminists pretty much dominating in parliament... And the man tax... And those equal rights offices which have 13 women and 2 men working in em.

As an idea, yes, the men in the parliament don't dare to call themselves anything other than feminists...(but it has calmed down a tad from when it was at its peak)

Specialist said:

Yeah,I'd even forgotten about that stupid idea...that every man should pay tax since some percentage of them hit women...

Specialist said:

Many state run companies are more along the other way around, which just makes it even more hypocritical when the state calls for 50/50 boards and complain that some private companies boards only has 40% women...

But again,I don't really care who sits where, the persons qualification is what matters...
I'm sure that many men could be replaced with better women and so on...I just do not like the whole idea that "We need X in this position" when the X is replaced by immigrant, woman, gay or whatnot...
X should be replaced by "person with the best qualifications for the job",nothing more, nothing less...(which is why this whole political correctness idea is a pet peeve of mine...so I'm sorry for highjacking the thread,it's just something that gets me going...)

Does this thread ring any FallOut2 bells?

"We don't need you tribals here!"
"I wish there was a wall around our town."
"Go home!"
"You stink."
"I don't have anything you can steal."

Chosen One For President!

No more than any other person who gets elected as a president. And if your concern for your own life outweighs your duty as the leader of a country, you are not the right person for the job.

Obama isn't really opinion-less; he's just kind of soft spoken at this point. He's something of a genius, probably the most articulate and intelligent person to even consider running in God only knows how long. I don't know where Kharn gets the idea that he is flat, it's really quite the opposite: he is by FAR the most charismatic of the Democratic runners. John Edwards is a massive, populist phony, Clinton is hated and half the country would move to Australia if she won (which she won't: she'll bring the Evangelicals back to the staunch Republican line, which will fuck up BOTH parties).

Still, his position on the Iraq war is depressingly pacifistic. I'm not voting for him, or for any of the Democrats, though I'll leave the country if the choice is between Clinton/Obama-Romney. I'm really, really tired of the Right-Republicans. Viva McCain, Viva Guliani!

Your argument that he is not flat is that he's...charismatic?

Ok, point; I have yet to see him utter one meaningful phrase in a speech or debate. Granted, I haven't looked, but still

Well, look. He's a friggin genius; as I said, articulate as friggin Updike, good looking enough to be a model for Abercrombie and Fitch, he's religious (and knows how to milk it)....really I've actually met the guy. He's really the most charismatic runner in the race, BY FAR.
