Ranking the SPECIAL stats.

Negativity

Take a dirt nap
I thought it would be interesting to go ahead and rank the SPECIAL stats, taking into account the entire series. I've never really seen it been done series wide, and I hope it will serve as an interesting discussion topic. Here is my video on the subject.

In a quick run down, my ranking goes from worst to best: Charisma, Endurance, Perception, Strength, Luck, Agility and Intelligence.

What are NMA's thoughts?

Hm. Personally, I rank it
Luck, charisma, perception, endurance, strength, intelligence, agility, from worst to best. Mostly based on Fallout 1 and 2, with strength and intelligence being somewhat similar. Always tried to maximize agility to increase action points, strength to 7 so PA can take it to 10 while still being able to all weapons, intelligence high so talking and science are good, the rest reduced dump stats. Never relied on luck for anything, most often went for energy weapons and the turbo plasma rifle will do many, many crits if aiming for the eyes.

I guess I can see that, although a strength of 7 is good enough to wield every weapon in the game iirc. That's why strength isn't as high, since it can be raised with power armour, by four points in Fallout 2. Of course, agility is essential, no need for an explanation. Luck is in a somewhat funny place where it can be dumped with almost no downsides, but raised for a massive boost to combat. I don't know if you caught it in the video, but I beat Fallout 1 without using my inventory almost solely using the instant-death critical mechanic.

Str 7 is not really necessary, yeah. I mostly put it to 6 so I can always use the plasma rifle without PA. For years I played with low luck, but I recently had a Fallout 2 run where I actually increased luck and it was a lot of fun, similar thing in New Vegas.

I watched a video where Tim Cain said he’d wished he had left luck out (albeit at the expense of the special acronym — which he didn’t come up with anyway). Because it wasn’t was as fully implemented as the other stats to make it worthwhile beyond random encounters. That’s mainly in reference to Fallout 1, I think, the following Fallouts used it more and agility is much more important in the modern ones for gunplay.

Hmm, depends on the game. Luck in Fallout has always been good, especially in New Vegas - crits. However, You can Play entire game without it and still do fine.

Fallout New Vegas from worst to best: Charisma, perception, luck, strength (easy to raise), agility, endurance, intelligence.
