In distant case it wasn't rhetorical - possibly because number of people who enjoy this kind of music is vanishingly small, Hassknecht. 2/10 in me taste, as very few pieces cause more yawness to me than this Phreqs one. Sorry.

Portal certainly are an acquired taste. They're quite extreme in what they do, but I do enjoy them and find them very fascinating. Not easy to stomach, though.
Anyway, can't go wrong with May and Mercury. 10/10, excellent performance.

It's one of those songs that need to be experienced live, tbh.

Must be. 2/10 to me, also. Would be some 4/10 if it'd be say 4 times shorter, though. I don't like excessive repetition of notes. And that particular performance by May and Mercury above - it's not a performance, afaik; it's a montage, significantly different from all other versions i heard. But it's the best (to me) version of the song i know, though, which is why it got posted and not some other one.

Definitely enjoyed the synth-solo and the hilariously gruff vocals prior to, but the rest of the song seems rather generic, like something that just about any thrash metal band would do. 6/10

@Kohno Title Fight was certainly a blend of many underground flavors, mostly drawing from hardcore punk, pop punk, post hardcore, and emo. Their 2009 compilation (which the song you listened to is from) is definitely showing of such, as some of the songs go as far back as when the band was a Blink 182 knockoff. They've since been experimenting to find what their preferred sound is, dabbling more into emo and elements of shoegazing, and are starting to gain traction in the music industry because of it. Here's a song from their 2012 LP, Floral Green.

Good one. 7/10. Could easily be about 8/10 from someone adoring the mood, too (i'm not). Tastes, tastes...

Speaking of mood, there are dozens recordings of this old song, but none is quite like this one.

Hm. Never really got into Eminem.
5/10, Dido is still good.

Pretty sure Neige didn't record a second take of those vocals.

I almost forgot that band exited. Been a while. 8/10

Stuck in my head the whole day. Therefore, it was a good day.

Ah, Ozzy! Him's very good. That one, i'd say 7/10 to me. He did a few i regard even much higher, too. Like the easy way out, dreamer, the other side, my life. And this one, of course:

Can't go wrong with Ozzy for sure.
8/10.

Not the music I would expect from a band with that name.

2/10 to me, Hass.

They do their "job" just fine, it's just that this is not what i, personally, consider being any much music (nor any much enjoyment, for that matter). Now this obviously differs from person to person, of course, but on the other hand, there are objective features which make music being music, and other features which make noise being noise. One of such features are mathematical equations which define proportionalities and certain laws of harmony, which when violated too much - make a piece objectively more noise than music. One may or may not know any much of those laws (i do), which however in no way invalidates them. I listened closely to the full duration of the piece, and doing so only confirmed the need to post this very note.

All that said, i sure understand that any specific person may like any specific kind of sound - i mean, it's OK, nothing's wrong about having a taste for it, in me book. I made this note not to attempt to convince anyone about anything, but merely to explain the rating of 2/10 i gave to the piece.

Just to illustrate the difference, here's a piece of the "other" sort.

7/10
Not for easy listening.
Though I'd like to say that the strictest definition of music is really just a purposeful arrangement of sound.
Hell this is music

That's weird, because that song in particular is actually very harmonic for the most part and even involves quite a bit of neoclassically inspired counterpoint. It's actually quite conservative when it comes to adhering to a certain key. Don't let the harsh vocals fool you.

So, uh, chicken song. I have no idea how to rate this.

3/10.

P.S.
...
Though I'd like to say that the strictest definition of music is really just a purposeful arrangement of sound.

The chicken song was not rated, so i do it now: gets 7/10 from me. It sure is music, i agree with you about it, R.Graves. And quite well-made piece of music, too! Just a bit too long one though for its idea and performance, gets old before it ends, otherwise could be 8/10 even, 'cause otherwise it's very good. But i can not agree with your definition of music; it's dead wrong. Why? Because you can hear it yourself on so many occasions when it's sounds but not music: like alarm clock buzzers, sirens, and even any regular human speech - which also is nothing else than "purposeful arrangement of sound" 100%. See, it's not that simple to strictly define what music actually is, but i've done it couple years ago somewhere else, and met no objections from board members to the definition i managed to create. Please tell if you want to discuss this any further. See, surprisingly, even lots of professionals lack clear understanding what the hell "music" actually is, exactly. :D

Are you a musician?

Anyway, Velvet Underground. Not my usual stuff, but good to listen to from time to time. 7/10

New Cynic!

Could be a musician, but decided not to. Graduated from 5-year-long music school with excellence and earned some good $ tuning pianos when i was young; perfect pitch ears and a habit to do my best, here, and so i never had a customer any less than happy about their instrument after i was done tuning it. And it was and still is my special point to never use any electronic devices for tuning, because using those make the instrument to sound quite boring, "standard" tembre. Only with tiny deviations from "proper" frequency for a string or two under each key can you make the istrument to sound lively, and how big those deviations are always depends on how every particular istrument is made - matherials, shapes, age, and even on how dry its wood is, at the time. So it can't be automated.

5/10 for new Cynic.

(speaking about pianos made me remember this one "staple" piece - but then the way Wilhelm plays it is anything but staple)

Impressive on a technical level but my ears say meh.
...
So your ears say "meh" to one of most beautiful pieces composed by one of greatest composers in all history, played by one of best piano players of 20th century, watched over 12 million times and having 62k likes vs 1k dislikes. Ok, noted. Your ears are quite special, my friend - but OK, everyone has one's own taste indeed.

6/10 for the Daydream in blue. Not bad, but then nothing special to me, also.
