Every time I hear a Death Grips song I find myself asking the same questions:

1. What the fuck am I listening to?
2. Is this even music?
3. Does this song have a replay button?

10/10

Believe it or not this guy was planning on becoming a lawyer.

Nice relaxed bassline. Nice to see Hip Hop going back to those roots instead of doing the same terrible TR808 beats over and over again.
7/10, I quite like it.
Here's the kind of Hip Hop I tend to listen to, if you can call it Hip Hop at all:

Too bad it's German so few here actually understand the lyrics :D

The atmosphere is good, and it's certainly more serious than what I previously associated with German hip-hop:

My only complaint is with the doubled vocal production. That emotional style of rap should sound more raw and vulnerable. I'd say like a 6/10 and that's mostly on the producer for not understanding proper tone. The song itself is cool.

Here's an unconventional use of hip-hop beats.

Good stuff. 7/10.

Yeah, the production is a bit unusual as they take a lot of inspiration from Electro music genres. There's a whole label/genre/scene in Germany that does this Post-Rap thing, there are some fantastic artists. I really like Soda, I'm not much of a Hip Hop or Rap guy, but he has some great lyrics, a general nice flow and some awesome beats.

That song has a very unusual structure for the genre which I like. The cello-ish beat is pretty cool too and the vocals are better handled. 7/10

I actually preferred Soda's part in the other song, too.

New wave hipster alert. Viewer discretion is advised.

Good song, but far too lethargic for my taste.

I'm not sure how you liked anything I've posted so far but I get where you're coming from.

I want to believe there is a decent indie punk/folk track in that video you posted, but I can't hear anything beyond the abysmally bad mix. Is everything panned to stereo extremes? Why is there so much high end? What on god's green earth is all that noise? The vocal performance is catchy, but holy shit I can hardly listen to that. 3/10 for effort and that's 99.9% the mixing engineer's fault. Don't tell me it's lo fi, either. I'm captain lo fi. It's just bad.

This is how you make something sound like shit in a good way.

The "bad mix" you were hearing was from a heavily distorted guitar. It's no problem though. Not everyone has to like quality music.

People have always told me that "12:51" is a sleeper track. I never got into it. 5/10

A bit too New Wavey or whatever for me. 5/10.
More odd german Hip Hop? Yeah, I'm kinda in the mood for that shit.

The "bad mix" you were hearing was from a heavily distorted guitar.

Uh, no... It was from exactly what I said, bad channel mixing.

A distorted guitar has nothing to do with poorly executed soundstage design, buried instruments, and what I assume is either a cheap vinyl effect or obvious compression artifacts. Like I mentioned, it's not really the writing or playing that's a 3/10, it's the painfully amatuer mastering that makes the song more like ear rape than something enjoyable. If you aren't sure what to listen for or don't use headphones it might not be as apparent, but show that video to any audio engineer and I promise you'll witness the human ballsack retracting back inside its own body. 'Quality music' generally requires three things: a good composition, a good performance, and a passable recording. Neutral Milk Honey seems to have figured two parts of that equation out. Let's go to one of their live shows and maybe I'll change my mind.

Question Hassknecht, is every German rapper in this genre colorblind? So far all the visuals have been in monochrome. Just an observation.

I think I like this one best of the three. The beat has a spacey prog rock feel to it and his delivery almost reminds me of reggae. Definitely a lot of passion in his voice. Solid 7/10.

This is both fortunately and unfortunately a very relatable video for me...

They all make very depressing music, so yeah :D
Some quite poppy stuff. 4/10, can't really get into it.

Song's got some good parts, but a lot of the riffs get pretty stagnant. It's a mixed bag for me. 4/10

Get the drugs. You're gonna need them.

I really want one of those pyramid-hand suits...

Weird, but a relaxed and nice vibe.

My life in seven words.

Also sick riffs. I feel like slaying a dragon right now. 8/10

It's good to see someone else back in the thread besides me, Hassknecht, and TheAdversary. To any lurkers reading this: get your pussy asses out of the shadows so we can tell you how bad your taste in music is.

At first I thought it was a little odd for a Ronald Jenkees track but eventually started to sound more familiar. I felt some Lindsey Stirling and even a bit of Tycho in there. 7/10. He's done better but it's still good.

Edit since Gizmo changed the song: Ween is too legendary for mere mortals to rate.

Sorry if you hate sidechain compression or the 1980s.

I don't hate the 80's, I think there are a lot of great songs from them.

Here is one:

Not to start a trend, but I had to list both of these: (rate either or both)
