Recommend games for my new PC

Makenshi

Ahoy, ye salty dogs!
After 7 years with the same machine, it's time move on. Here are the main changes:

Pentium IV 1.6Ghz.. --> Pentium Core 2 Duo 2.0Ghz
GeForce 5500 ........ --> GeForce 8600 GTS
40Gb HD ATA ......... --> 300Gb HD SATA
512Mb RAM ............ --> 4Gb RAM

Now I'll be able to play some games I played on minimum, some I couldn't play at all, and some new one. Here is a list I made so far, I'd like you suggestions, boyz!

Age of Empires 3 (replay) + The Warchiefs + Asian Dinasties

Command & Conquer 3 + Kane's Wrath

Red Alert 3

Starcraft 2

Dawn of War 2

Titan Quest + Immortal Throne (replay)

Assassin's Creed

Lost Planet: Extreme Condition

The Witcher

Fallout 3 (with mods, if NMA modders touch the damn thing)

Mass Effect

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. + Clear Sky

F.E.A.R. + Project Origin

Bioshock

Gears of War

Gears of War 2

Well, I've only played the demo so far, but Company of Heroes does some interesting stuff with the RTS genre.

I've heard nice things about Mask of the Betrayer as well.

I suggest Nethack.

Also replay Vampire: Bloodlines probably, since I don't think your previous PC could've coped with it very well.

Civilization IV is pretty good as well.

Mask of Betrayer is far better than NWN 2 Original Campaign, I think it's worth to give it a one play through. I'm not up to date with current titles, as few of them are of interest to me.

just dont forget to patch!

Don't bother with Perseus Mandate, the real sequel; Project Origin will be released soon.

I also wouldn't get the Gears of War games but that is my own taste.

I thought Perseus Mandate was an expansion... :scratch: Anyway, is it good'n worthy or not? And this Project Origin, what is it?

About Gears of War, don't worry... my list is set in stone, all the games I put there are good, imo. :wink:

Hello Makenshi,

Perseus Mandate is a Stand Alone expansion, you don't need FEAR to run it.
Thing is, Monolith lost the rights on FEAR and after that Vivendi made Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate.

Project Origin, the real sequel to FEAR will not treat these two games as canon.

@The Dutch Ghost: Understood! But are these non-canon games (Extracion and Perseus) good or not? Suppose they're not at the level of the original F.E.A.R. but maybe are still good. What do you say?

Okay, I can't really say much on that.
I do have Extraction Point but my current machine can't run it well, so I will have to try it again when I have a new PC.

But in general, well Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate haven't been that well received, many found it repetitive.
I'd suggest you pick up from a bargain bin if you have to have them.

Call of Duty 4 is a-ok and another romp through the Half Life 2 series never hurts.

Also, Extraction Point isn't that good. Definately not as good as the original game anyway. Didn't bother with Perseus Mandate as it's supposedly even worse. :o

Perseus Mandate wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible either.

It was mediocrity at it's most average!

Except for the shadow-hole monsters, those were just annoying.

don't bother with ass creed, its one of the worst games ever made, boreing repititive shit and no stealth involved.

You should play Bioshock. The end sucks, but the rest is really ok.

Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate are expansions and they are pretty okay I guess, if repetitive. PM is a bit forgettable but EP is pretty good.

C&C 3, Witcher and Bioshock are great fun.

Lost Planet and Gears of War are utter shit.

CoD 4 kicks a lot of ass.

Are they really that bad?! I simply can't ignore DDD's advice, but they seemed so good in the vids and pics I've seen... :?

He's pretty much on the ball with that.

Lost Planet had some potential but it starts to get grinding after a while.

Gears of War on the other hand is essentially just a showcase for the Unreal 3 Engine's graphical capabilities, it's embarrassingly stupid in all other aspects.

Well, feel free to try them out yourself, but my advice is to stay away. GoW seems like it has nice graphics at places but you soon realise just how unoriginal and unimaginative they are, as is the whole game. The cover system gunfights look cool on paper and in youtube videos but are unintuitive, sluggish and repetitive in action.
All in all it's a very overrated game.

Lost Planet is just boring and grindy like the Generalisimus said.

Another severely overrated game is Halo 2.

Funnily enough all three of those were best selling console games ported to PC... :shrug:
