Recommended book for Post Apoc/Fallout/Wasteland fans

Wool was pretty damn vaultastic. I have to second the other poster, it is one of the best PA stories I have ever read.

Dead Town by Brian Keene. Yes, it has zombies, but they are not ordinary zombies. Keen manages to make them unique with a rather interesting twist on their origins and just 'what' they are. I love Brian Keene!

It captures a post-apocalyptic view VERY well--particularly in the urban setting. I highly recomend this for ANY post-apocalyptic enthusiast.

I haven't read many apocalyptic books. But I would recommend giving Stephen King's 'The Stand' a read, if you can manage 800 pages (if not don't bother). He can write great things outside of the horror genre.

Get the first version of the book, in some ways poetic. The newer "ultimate" edition bloats an already large book with too many unnecessary things.

I wanted to get Leibowitz but unfortunately the US burned all book(store)s. And it isn't an e-book yet.

RIP Borders/Barne's and Noble/ et al

Tough one-

Favorite post-apoc zombie book was Alden Bell, the Reapers are the Angels, but there have been some new zombie books that might be good.

I have The Passage, but haven't read it yet.

There is a pretty Cthulhu post-apoc story "Shaft Number 247" by Basil Copper that stayed with me.

But fiction that really fits the Fallout themes- post-apoc/western/retro? Tough to find.

I agree, the Stand is pretty good early Stephen King.

Oh, might not want to forget, The Earth Abides, an old classic.

World War Z - Great Zombie Apoc
The Road - As mentioned above, is a GREAT story! sure it may be POSSIBLE to take it as religious in undertones, that is how you choose to interpret it... It is worth a read though!
Z for Zachariah - About a sixteen year old girl in a world ravaged by a nuclear holocaust... I thought this book was fairly well done... Rather simply written though.
Dies the Fire - Awesome start to series of books (which I have yet to read the others) about basically the world having a reset button hit, as all tech was pretty much destroyed by an EMP... IT sends the world back to a fuedal state... and it is a GOOD time!
I am Legend - Richard Mathesons short novel is FAAAR better than any of the adaptations EVER made for film... This is a GREAT story, has an edge of fear, and captures the bitter loneliness of Robert Neville brilliantly... I recommend this for fans of horror, post apoc, and just fucking good stories!
The Chrysalids - The Chrysalids is set in the future after a devastating global nuclear war. David, the young hero of the novel, lives in a tight-knit community of religious and genetic fundamentalists, who exist in a state of constant alert for any deviation from what they perceive as the norm of God's creation (description taken from amazon... i havent read this yet, but its on my list)

Well Im sure there is more I will think of later.... Oh The Stand... thats a great one too!

Hope that helps a bit!
