Yea but the outdated computer has more games coming out for it.

Got on 360 but it red ringed and I couldn't be arsed to go through the confusing return stuff so I just waited for my brother to want to play the 360 so badly that he would buy his own.

Which he did :P
So I own two 360s technically.

Xbox does not have more games than PC

I bought a PS3.

An expensive investment that has yet to break down and streams all of my video files from my computer directly to my widescreen LCD in high def with absolutely no fuss at all.

Lets face it, The Xbox 360 is a poorly made piece of hardware that is vastly inferior to other things that cost more, but pay for themselves with reliability and versatility.

FUCK MICROSOFT!!!

360 streams all videos from your PC to your widescreen too. It also streams Netflix. I also have a 360 since 2005 that has yet to break down. I agree that PS3 is a superior machine, however, it doesn't actually do anything that 360 doesn't yet, except play Blu Ray but it's also a lot more expensive. There is also a thread about this already.

Well, also don't forget the fact that PS3 also plays all the old PS2 games and thus has a much bigger and more awesome game library than XBOX360. It also has better GFX quality. For someone who naver bought a PS2, PS3 is a great deal, imo.

A new PS3 doesn't play PS2 games and never will.

Also about the recovery disc. It's not the OS it's a hardware overheating issue.

That's the thing, PS3's don't play any PS2 games at all anymore. Only some PS3's were backwards compatible for awhile. Those PS3's didn't play all PS2 games either; some didn't work on it at all, others didn't work very well. That site that you linked lets you check which games don't work as they should.

Now, all backward compatibility has been removed and PS3's with backward copatibility are discontinued. That's the main reason I'm not getting one. I looked for those old PS3's with BC online and they're like 500 a pop. The ones with the actual PS2 chip are even more expensive. Screw that, I say.

A new PS3 doesn't play PS2 games and never will.

Why do you say that? I'm really hoping they will, in which case I might get one.

Hmm, interesting. I guess I'll have to get my PS3 from e-bay then, if ever.

That's a serious fuck-up by Sony though, gotta admit it.

The BC models had a PS2 GPU in them. The new one don't.

Not all BC models had PS2 chips. Only 2006 models had them, 2007 models used emulation software to run PS2 games. New ones have neither. The fact that they already had a working emulator, makes this even shittier on Sony's part. I was hoping they'd bring it back via an update somehow.

The PS3 first came with 2 PS2 chips. The CPU(so called emotion engine) and the GPU. For the European launch they took out the PS2 CPU and emulated it's functions on cell. But the GPU was left on.

Later on the GPU was removed and BC went out the window. It's just to hard to emulate that GPU on the PS3s setup.

You're sort of right.

Like the South Korean and European models, the North American 80 GB model also excludes the PlayStation 2 "Emotion Engine" CPU chip.[59] However, it still keeps the "Graphics Synthesizer" GPU.

Thus, BC on current PS3's is indeed not likely to ever happen. Well, this means that I'm not getting a PS3 for a very long time. Unless they make a model with BC that is.

It's talking about the CECHE 80gb model, that one is out of production.

The CECHK 80gb model does not have the PS2s GPU.

The PS3 wikipedia article is pretty horrible when it comes to talking about BC.

That was one of (IGNS?) top predictions for 2009. That Sony will sometime in the 2nd-4th quarter release an emulator type update or something along those lines.

It was IGN or another website like that. It was just a list of predictions they thought each console would go for this year. I will try to find the article again.

BC never really bothers me because I keep my PS2 out. It is pretty amazing that thing still works perfectly.

Well, we're talking about the people who DON'T have a PS2.

Then again, maybe it's just worth to get a decent gaming rig instead, which will allow you to do both the new PC games and the emulated PS2 games. I played DMC1 on my average laptop, and it runs pretty stable, albeit at about 30 fps.

How much do used PS2s really cost these days? Hell you can even buy them new. That console still has quite a bit of support from Sony.

Never tried computer emulation for PS2 games.

Well, if I wanted to waste some money on a gaming console, I'd rather save up a bit and buy a PS3 (if it had BC that is).

As for emulation: it works pretty darn well now.

Eh to each his own I suppose. You can find them used in newspaper adds/online for dirt cheap prices. My grandfather got one with 25 games for 80 bucks out of an Iwanna.

I suppose if some people are picky about clutter and want it all in "one machine" BC would be a must for them. Personally I am glad they removed the feature and dropped the price of the PS3.
