Enclave Advanced Power Armor

apa.jpg

Finaly, since all the weeks... the first release of the Advanced Power Armor is here.

Original Item-Description:
This powered armor is composed of lightweight metal alloys, reinforced with ceramic castings at key points. The motion-assist servo-motors appear to be high quality models as well. This power armor model was constructed by the Enclave after the Great War, as opposed to the pre-War T-51b.

Mod Description:
This Modification adds the classic Enclave Advanced Power Armor from Fallout 2. (The Enclave soldiers are running around with it. The ratio is approx 50:50)

Mod language: English and german.

You can choose between two versions:
## ClassicEnclaveAPA-*.esp
This file adds the APA with original Fallout 3-like stats. That means, it is as useless as all the other power armors in the game...

## ClassicEnclaveAPA-Better-APA-*.esp
This file adds the APA with adjusted stats into the game. ALL power armors in the game got adjusted stats and are now a LOT stronger than before. I used the "Better Power Armor"-mod as a base for the new stats. I recommend this file because it brings the best feeling. But keep in mind: Not only you use a stronger armor now. Also your enemys in power armors. ;) I tried to make the stats "fit" with the power armors from Fallout 1 and 2. As example, the T-51b gives +3 strength and the APA +4, etc.. it would be the best if you guys install a mod that disables the bobble heads too... then it would fit best, I think.

And as third:
## Total Replacement
I also uploaded a separate file with that you can overwrite ALL normal Enclave Power Armors. This file will _not_ change the stats or anything else. It just replaces the old Fallout 3 enclave Power Armor model!

Credits:
The original model was created by Omage but dropped. HAL9000 made the great texture, uv-maps and normal maps after I (Lexx) picked it up and fixed stuff, adjusted the model and the new texture from HAL to make it fit perfect, made the rigging, dismemberment and includet it into the game, etc. etc. All the not-so-nice-stuff, eh? :)

The old post:
[spoiler:f59519844a]So, I picked up the work from Omega and started to get his model ingame. It isn't very easy, I have to say... also I never ever tried to include a new armor into Fallout 3, Oblivion or Morrowind...

Anyway, the last two days I learned a lot of stuff and it seems to work out pretty well. Now it is time to show the first screenshots, I think...

--------------------
So, here are the first screenshots.

This is how it looks like at the moment ingame: http://bildupload.sro.at/p/297083.html
Don't look to much at the texture. It is totally broken of course. There needs to be created a uv map, the texture itself, normal map, etc. etc. At the moment still the old enclave APA texture is on it.

Ok, lets come to the problems. I marked them red:

You can see the pipboy-arm. The holes needs to be fixed. Seems to be the easiest one. http://bildupload.sro.at/p/297078.html

The neck has a hole. Ok, I could easy close the hole but I don't know if this would be good. Then I thought about that the weight of this part doesn't fit 100% but I already tried to fix that and... well, it didn't worked as intended. Anyway, this problem isn't a big thing because you can not see it normally. http://bildupload.sro.at/p/297077.html

The arms. If you stand normal- no problems. But if you draw a gun or so, you can see holes here. Left side more than right side because of the animations. http://bildupload.sro.at/p/297076.html

There is also an issue with the big weapons-animation. That means, the animation itself works as always, but the head and the armor in combination:

Ah yes... and I saw some issues from the rigging. I think, it is needed to redo the right arm.. you see it stretching too far if you run without a weapon drawn.

Now some badass-stuff. Blowing up shit.

I think, with a good texture it can look very great. I don't think it will be that hard to find someone for it this time... so I hope.

/Edit: One more screenshot because I like it.

You sir, are made of ze awesome.

Was hoping someone would pick up this dudes work as it is pretty damn badass and glad it's you.

Looks good ingame so far. Well except for the holes and the unavoidable helmet clipage.

So... I got it ingame, fixed some stuff here and there, etc. and now HAL9000 is on it and creates the uv map, texture and so on. :)

this looks amazing. Yeah it nees some good high quality texture still I guess, but since you say that is in the works.

Well it already now rocks!

Awesome job.

Weeeeh! Noch ein Deutscher hier!

The progress is good, as far as I could see. :)

Also I started working on the pipboy icons:

Just one thing that I noticed, dont get me wrong might be just nitpicking, the model and all still looks pretty good. But the upper arms seem to be compared to the forearm a bit ... strange or off. Something in the size of the diameter seems to be a bit distracting as the forearms seem to have a biger one (which also already bothered me with the usual F3 power armors that the armor of the upper part did not had a bigger diameter which gives the armor a feeling of beeing "less" of a armor, if that makes any snse for someone)

Hope you dont missunderstand me, still good work

The hulking, menacing posture is excellent, mein freund.

Remember to ask yourself one thing when modelling, though. Is it worth the effort? I mean, the hole in the neck might seem like a big deal, but is it really visible during gameplay?

This is all fixed already. :) Also I needed to rigg (attaching polygons to the bones) the model again from scratch because of some issues we found. But this is not bad- Ok, I am doing this already the hole night now... but it looks now far better than before. I could avoid the mistakes I have done while my first try and it looks all better now.

The only problem that is left with this armor now is the size. Fallout 3 animations are not made for such a armor size. Everything works fine from walking to running, etc. but like you see in my screenshots above, big weapons animations and some idle animations are making "troubles" because of the size of the armor. But I don't want to make this thing smaller because then we get this junk/trash-thingy like the other enclave armor that is already ingame....

Anyway, the modification is as good as finished. The uv maps is nearly finished and only the texture is left to do. This will take some time too of course... HAL9000 is making the texture, if you want to see some work from him, click here and here. Some Enclave troops are running around with this armor, inventory icons are done and I made two versions of it for now: one is the power armor with "fallout 3 stats". That means, the armor is approx as strong as the other power armors. The second version is based on this mod and makes the APA much stronger- more power.

(still old, not fitting texture)
(edit: Ah yes, just in case.. I use the bandage from my very small eyepatch-mod  )

This is also because of the animations, I think. It wouldn't be a problem to adjust this, but then you see all the time how your arms are moving through the rest of the armor.

Great job, Lexx! Now this looks like REAAAAL Advanced Power Armor, not something those Enclave monkeys in FO3 weared once. I felt a urge to go bashing skulls and laughing at bullets just by looking at this suit o' armor.

One thing: Aren't the shoulder-pads too big, or are they the apropriate size?

Actually they're not really shoulder pads, they're armor plating that protects internal components of the exo skeleton. At least, that's how I see it.

Shouldn't worry to much about the clipping, the current Enclave armour clips like a bitch half the time and your arms go through the T-51b when you walk so it won't be any more clippy than usual.

Heh ok then.

Anyway, I made the "shoulder pads" or whatever it has to be, a bit smaller.

It is not very much smaller but it fits better this way, imo.

just my personal oppinion but I liked it bigger better, dunno looks like a "real" powerarmor then and also closer to F2s original version and more distinctive compared to the one in Fallout 3. But if its causing to many issues, its really fine that way. The size of the power armors in F3 seems always to be a bother cause even if you wear a PA you still possess the same size as any other NPC! I mean should such kind of armor not at least increase slightly onces size ? to at least aprox 1.90 or even 2 meters ? You get that size sometimes alone by wearing big boots.

Though yeah ... I am surprised Bethesda did not bothered to make proper animations for at least a item like a Powerarmor since you can see cliping issues with almost all powerarmors from enclave to brotherhood and the original Tb51. *le sigh* ...

Also to say that HAL9000s textures rock!

No, the image is a bit irritating, I think. I don't made it much smaller. Just a little bit. Ingame it is still more bulky than the other PAs. Also if you look at the images from Fallout 2 where you can see the APA, you see that it also has not that big shoulders. ;) (and you see more than one version. On every image, the armor looks different)

To the size-thing... I know that there is a mod that makes the player bigger when wearing a PA. But I don't know if this works for npcs too.

Alphadrop said:
Last I heard it doesen't make npcs bigger.
Also due the gloves and pipboy the scaling looks off.
I meant your size as player is the same compared to NPCs who do not wear a PA which is a bit stupid in my eyes cause it should increase your size somewhat. I mean its a Power Armor afterall.
