Remake 'Escape from NY'

I am now very intrigued which particular movies you are talking about Blakut, lesbians and Jesus.

Some obscure things done in my country and in Hungary if i remember well. But it's not that important, the ideea matters. There are some gems among indepent films, and there are a lot of psychedelic non-intelligible productions with the sole purpose of melting your brain - i've seen a lot of them because i go to film festivals from time to time.

As for movies or media in general getting more and more stupid, well that has bene going on for a while now and most of the new audience seems to applaud it.

It's a vicious circle: they make bad movies and media, people assume that that's all there is and consume those products and then they ask for more, because that is all they know. Why? Because that is what they are given.

Hence why I no longer have North American television in my home, I watch 'unique' shows off of my computer, once in a while something catches my eye from NA but 'tis a rare coincidence and usually only good for a small bit if interest, not fandom on any level.

I like films that have a post-apocalyptic setting or subject. Know of any good ones? I've watched a some movies that fit into this category:
Mad Max series, Waterworld, The Quiet Earth, On the Beach, Night of the Comet, Escape from -insert city-.
I want to find Le Dernier Combat...
Does Idiocracy count as post-apocalyptic?

esit: oops, i am offtopic.
I'll try to find escape from NY and watch it with some of my friends. I remember i saw these movies as a kid (Escape from NY, LA). What do you think about escape from LA... this one i don't remember so well. I mean, i know the story, but how was it compared to the first one?

I found escape from LA to be a bit less then NY. The main bad guy seems to.........stereotypical. Otoh, the presidents views are really interesting to watch.

Other postapoc films ? Let's see. Battlefield earth maybe. Oh and Screamers. The last one is, imo, a pretty little gem that never got the attention it deserved. Granted it's not an award winning movie but i found it very entertaining.

Fuck no.

Kurt Russel's performance is irreplaceable.

As is the King of New York, who will propably get replaced with Jamie Foxx playing an LA-style gangsta super hip-hop crimelord constantly high on crack, only white trash this time to be politically correct. And the president will be Morgan Freeman. And Snake Plissken will be Asian.

Fuck no.

It depends on if you're into animations or not, I'm well aware that it doesn't float everybody's boat, and I wouldn't want it too, hell I think it's too popular already and am contemplating going over and starting to watch Finnish comedy subtitled instead.

But that aside I can make a few gentle suggestions... ish

As far as post apoc, there's one that comes to mind that's recent, however it's more of a drama than an action show.

Aoi hitomi no shoujo, otherwise titled The Third, the world's been blown to a giant desert pretty much, genetic critters from the world war are all around and attack human settlements and have become something of the new wildlife of the wastes.

There are those that can interface with old world technology called the third, they are marked by a characteristic red eye in their forehead, a genetic implant for interfacing with technology directly or a random mutation, it is uncertain why they exist but they do and they rule over the normal humans as protectors of the deadly secrets from the last world war.

Most of the old technology is banned, some of it is allowed so that the people can protect themselves but anything the third deem 'too dangerous for the unenlightened' are dragged off and jailed, more serious offenders have an AI construct sent after them called 'Blue Breaker', it's only used for the most dire of offenders.

Another would be Fist of the north star, it's somewhat strange, and gory, they're re-making it actually, it's another post apoc that the main character is one of the only people who decides to stand against a tyrannical conquerer that has began taking over.

The main character's fighting methods are questionable at best, he fights using pressure points and in doing so, they wind up bursting like an overripe grapefruit, personally I'd prefer a gun meself, but it's not my story after all.

A technical post apoc called Megazone 2-3 is actually a 3 movie series, it takes place in an idyllic, mid-80's city or so the inhabitants think. In reality they're aboard a large colony ship that's set to wander through space without any real direction due to the fact that the humans destroyed their world due to war and pollution.

The goal of the ship's AI is to determine if the Humans are worthy of a second chance, if they are worthy to go back to the planet after the life cycles have restored themselves on the planet of their birth.

Shin getter robo is another post apoc set in the Getter Robo Universe where professor Saotome has gone insane from Getter Radiation and attempts to build the ultimate Getter, along with resurrect his dead son.

Unbeknown to the professor, invaders seeking the Getter radiation as a source of constant evolution, survived after the original attack against earth failed when the Humans mass produced Getter Robos to be able to combat the invaders.

In humanity's panic to stop the now insane Saotome they dump a large tactical nuclear weapon on the robot he's working on, however the robot's self preservation, either an AI or the Getter itself acting within the shell, fights back and in the chaos caused by the nuclear strike and the getter beam from the robot causes Getter radiation to explode across the earth, causing the forced evolution of anything that was exposed to open air, creating a whole slew of new invaders and at the same time killing off most of the planet's natural life and vegetation.

Anyhee, that oughtta be enough for you for a bit if you're actually interested, otherwise meh, someone else might pick up on it.

P.S. Sorry for the de-rail...

I've seen screamers, i liked it a lot. Ooh, i remembered, A boy and his dog, i liked that one.

I'll try and find those, although it won't be easy getting them here, where i live.

I've finally watched escape from NY with a buddy of mine. We went to watch it at his girlfriends house (she had a DVD player + big Tv + booze), unfortunately his girlfriend and her friend, another girl, had drunk half a bottle of tequilla by the time we got there and they were completely hammered. So we had to watch the movie pausing from time to time to pick them off the floor. Fortunately they fell asleep before the end of the film.
I find Escape from New York much more fallouty than Escape from LA, thus way cooler. What i didn't like was that everyhing was so goddamn dark...

I would have heared the dialogues if the girls would have stopped falling head-first on the floor. But even so, I must admit that the movie has a great feeling to it. It was something different, because characters who I've expected to play an important part in the movie were killed and the i liked the subtle lack of humanity posessed by the president of the United States.

NO OTHER ACTOR replaces Kurt Russel ! and btw... the Original movie is just fine ,why should there be a remake of it ?!
Money i guess !

Personally, i would love to see a modern-day remake of The Stand, with a proper R F, and the more hardcore scenes reinserted into the movie (like the whole Trashcan Man - The Kid episode which was cut out :().

That would totally rock. Not like a remake of a cult classic which doesn't NEED a remake. What is wrong with you people? God damn it!

Whats a book?

I am seriously getting tired of remakes. Many people have mentioned that it seems like Hollywood is running out of ideas, but there are still plenty of those paper-things-that-have-writing-on-them to butcher.

How dare they remake Escape from New York?

It's a classic. The acting is classic, the soundtrack is classic, the actors are classic, the graphics are classic.

It's not like it's semi-broken and needs to be revisited. It's not like a remake could do anything but destroy the original and replace it with a y2k+ style gangsta/drama/bullshit Hollywood cookie.

Seriously. Trying to remake an 80s movie that has 80s written all over it in the 00s is just insane.

I watched the trailer for the new Alvin and the Chipmunks recently. The chipmunks now perform Hip Hop. I think that's symptomatic for the y2k+ era of Hollywood film making.
