Dear RPG Codex users,

We have recently had to give serious thought as to whether we could really keep RPGCodex.net going the way it was. We've debated on it for quite some time and, unfortunately, we've decided that the RPG Codex simply could not remain in its popamole state.

We're very grateful for all support we've received from all of you over the past eight years. We've come a long way since being founded in 2002. Working on RPGCodex.net was a great adventure for all of us and an unforgettable journey to the past, through the long and wonderful history of PC RPG's.

In the end, we simply didn't have enough internets to keep going the way we were. We needed over 13,811 moar internets and they weren't coming in fast enough.

You may give internets in memory of the Codex.

This doesn't mean the idea behind RPGCodex.net is gone forever because truthfully, ideas never die. An idea is something you know and when you don't even know what it is you don't know, you can't really lose the things i don't even what is this; as Cleve would say. So we're closing down these forums and website and putting this era behind us as new challenges await.

On a technical note, this week we'll put in place a solution to allow everyone to re-visit their old forum posts. Stay tuned to this page and follow us on Twitter and Facebook for updates - or sexually harass the people at RPGWatch.

All the best,
GOG.com The bros from rpgcodex.net (not .com, that's a different set of bros)

This is obviously a reference to GoG's Closure Stunt:

Hopefully this is just a cruel Trolling attempt on behalf of the site's management...

I'm pretty sure they're simply making the switch to new forum software. If the Codex is actually closed, however, it will be a sad day for me.

True, but I doubt it. Just another elaborate troll we have to endure here. :P A bit bad that there was no warning before though, I wanted to update a couple of threads just this morning, but now it doesn't work. Oh well, give it a week, then it'll be back.

Dark Underlord having his lulz while upgrading forum software is the most probable option. Server is obviously operating, as other Sorcerer hosted sites are up.

lol, I started reading on the site and thought "GOG flashback". Which is clearly the intent since it's even mentioned below.

Anyhow, it means they're doing some refurbishing imo.

I would miss the LP forum.

That's it. I certainly wouldn't miss GD. Hopefully when they relaunch it they'll keep general discussion closed.

Yea, I mostly just go to check the LP section and news on the indie scene.
Man GD is just horrible, 4chan is a calm bay of polite discussion by comparison.

Most Codex members are hanging around on "RPGWatch":

A Word of Warning, This thread reads like a condensed microcosm of the Codex's "General Discussion".

Consensus seems to be that "Darkunderlord" is probably just upgrading the Website/Servers...

The Codexer "villain of the story" claims to have received an e-mail from DU saying:
I wiped out 5000+ inactive and newfag accounts based on a complex algorithm I put my chinese slave labour cultural friends staying in my sweatshop basement to develop (based on a number of stuff like registration date, postcount, forum stats etc). The immediate performance gain was crazy and might have been part the culprit for a lot of the problems lately. Therefore I've also decided to limit registrations but not decided on how just yet. We'll see how it goes.

I expect a lot of butthurt from the deleted accounts but I still keep a back-up archive so if anyone begs hard enough and provides good enough self-depreciating entertainment, I may just restore them and all their posting history
The existence of this e-mail has not been adequately conformed by others, so this may just be Trolling...

It's Cloaked Figure.

You'd have to be mad to trust him.

Maybe the had to shut everything down just to remove GD. Oh. Oh! Happy thought, this is.

Yeah. But I don't think it'd work, the bullshit and spam would just spread to other subfora unfortunately.

If they close GD they'll have to enforce stricter rules to control spam and if they enforce stricter rules they may as well keep GD open.

It's Cloaked Figure.

Villain is CF? Does he have that much free time to keep two very active accounts?

Something that works for Germany though is the NPD where many of the Nazis are inside. If they would close them I guess they would spread all over the place as well.

I cant see why that cant work for the Codex with the GD forum. As long the crazy people stay there *shrugs*

Um, NO. I'm the one who asked him for proof in the first place.

Anyways, I don't get all the GD hate. We can have some pretty good discussions in there, provided there aren't too many low-grade posters around to ruin everything with juvenile spamming.

If they closed GD, it'd require very aggressive moderation to keep it from spilling over into the other subfora. :)

Either way, the codex was fine as is.

They should treat it as the shameful pit of filth it is, hide it. That way I can at least link people to stuff on the Codex without worrying they might browse around and reach GD.

Isn't General Discussion section a standard for any forum though? Best thing to do is probably just start banning users who repeatedly demonstrate disinterest in saying anything other than retarded nonsense. Which is likely to happen anyway. Freedom of chaos on Codex has its certain charms but yeah it can also get annoying. Site definitely needs more moderation than it had thus far.
