Rumor: Fallout: New Vegas features

Sadly, I'm pretty sure that we don't figure into any of Beth's decisions or conversations.

maybe, maybe not. any bad press that makes it public should concern them and while i didn't really mean the two sites i listed (i mean all old-skoolers disappointed), it certainly has to have dawned on them quite awhile ago that they gained a LOT of money and a LOT of attention with this game...yet nearly all of the hard-core Fallout fansite regulars which helped make the series a beloved classic...hated it.

as an artist, and not a businessman, that would *have* to bother me. if that doesn't bother them, the argument would have to be one of extremely blind narcissism or lack of artistic integrity.

So what? The usual Bethesda fanbase loved the game and will probably buy more, so I'm not sure why Beth would try to please old fans when there's easier targets (casual gamers, etc)

Does anyone remember the very first Fallout 3 teaser ? Boy I cant believe how ... hyped I was for Fallout 3 after that video. But when I think what we got now ... urgh I feel so dirty >_>. Damn Bethesda!

I remember it like it was yesterday.

First, elation at the announcement of Fallout 3. That was followed by months of growing cynicism as I learned about Bethesda, and even played Morrowind for half an hour. But then - that video...

Hell, even the start screen of the game. I tried to like it, man, I tried.

Personally Ièm* going to stay as cynical as possible this time around. They can just try and prove me wrong.

Why does every laptop sold in Canada come with French keyboard settings that randomly turn themselves onÉ

Let's pretend that's not true.

I really like the ghoul idea. You'd have to get used to the ghoul discrimination and such stuff. But I'd really like to have some crime bosses. Ya' know, sly, smat and sort of civilized people. I gotta say, it's starting to sound like a fallout game again. Good thing Beth isn't controlling the creation anymore. Hopefully we won't be disapointed again :/

Too bad this was just a hoax. REAL info on the game is coming soon in the next OXM issue.

Still. It wouldn't be a bad idea.

Ya, well I think what we're going to end up with here in FO:NV is Beth 'fixing' what they think they got wrong with FO3. In other words new story with tweaks, which could have just as easily been more DLC rather than a new title. I know I'll take a lot of flak for this but even if it is FO2 (specifically New Reno) re-envisioned by Beth; I really had a lot of fun with FO2 despite all the fing bugs/patches.

As far as the soundtrack argument, I remember playing the original FO back in '97 and it is still the most captivating and intriguing video game experience I have ever had. I think it was the first in which I actually ever responded to emotionally and cared what happened (probably the last too). Needless to say that soundtrack was a huge part in creating the feel to that environment. I'll never forget those load screens and the atmosphere those tracks provided. I still proudly own my original copy and manual to this day. I think the IP is so far removed from any of the original creators and in the hands of too many suits concerned with shareholders. I almost think that time in gaming/crpg history was a golden age where the little guy with the idea could still produce quality games but now the gaming industry has become too 'sophisticated' and concerned with sales
that we're never going to see anything like that again, if not for a long time.

I think most people would be happy if they take a look in the quests of new Reno for Vegas since Reno was one of the better locations in F2 from its quests and how they worked. It was just the setting and visual style which didnt fit to Fallout at all beeing more close to a world stuck in the 30s with mobsters and their tomy guns.

They can sure learn or use a lot from Reno. They just should not forget that its a bombed 200 year old wasteland. Not Al Capones Chicago.

I am curious why did they choose Vegas....I don't really know what that place has to do with Fallout, I just can't imagine why would would they put it at the centre of a Fallout game....

EDIT Ausirish correction made.

Vegas, not Reno. And it was actually mentioned in Fallout 1 (as a reference to Wasteland, but still).

I've thought about that too, I'm guessing Reno was a secondary target (no military value?). Problem is with MIRV's, that was a non-issue. I'm assuming here based on the entire cannon that nobody had them (this includes FO3 and the experimental MIRV at the depot, not to mention the megaton quest which appeared to be a singular bomb). That's a really good question man, but since we lack designers to answer it we'll just keep on guessing.

Awesome catch, Fat Freddy; I stand corrected sir!

I hate to bring it up...

Wasn't Obsidian the fine folks who made Kotor 2. :?

Well I guess, if we want a developer who knows how to code 1/2 finished bug ridden product to give us that old school Fallout feel!

Well I couldn't just come out and say it, so I had to bury it in Tycho's dialog.

You're a BIS dev? I'm in the presence of greatness apparently. love your work man. Obviously, loved the FO titles (and again I know I'll take flak for it New Reno) and Baldurs. As a dev what's your take on FO3 and upcoming?
