Russian previews of Fallout 3

PC Gamer Russia and Best Computer Games have previewed Fallout 3. The Russian site Fallout Archives transcribed the entire BCG article. 13pm provides us with snippets:
Combat - that's where you can use bottle caps. They can be used in a very special way. Follow me: take a lunchbox, add some explosives and some bottle caps on top. A handmade bomb with additional damage elements is done.
<...>
Besides explosive lunchboxes there're many things that are also frightening: portable catapult firing mini-nukes. Or another weapon - some kind of a toaster firing everything...
<...>
Kalashnikov guns and chinese guns won't be forgotten. Supermutants mostly will be equipped with the latter.
<...>
(about gameplay time) Yeah, we heard it right - twenty hours instead of two hundred. So this is, strictly saying, a couple of evenings. Couple of battles. Where's the roleplaying here?
<...>
Tough desicion-making is a very unusual thing for those who are fond of Elder Scrolls series (and for the developers of the series as well, probably).
<...>
No, you shouldn't be worried about the game. Even the perspective to recieve 'Oblivion with guns' is not so frightening as some purists may think. But I think 'Elder Scrolls: Fallout' is not what they are doing: developers understand what we love the series for <...> They know the right direction to move and incline to return us the good old Fallout.
Link: BCG on Fallout Archives.
Link: cover of BCG. Note the art used is fanart by Defonten, not Bethesda.

Thanks 13pm and Angry Russian User.

i'm glad some people are looking at a preview somewhat realistically.

Leave it to the Russians to break the bullshit.

That's, erm, illogical to say the least. How do enemy guns find their way into the capital of the nation, far removed from that enemy?

Ah of course, super mutants wield Chinese guns. Now it all makes sense.

And who could forget the mystical all-purpose toaster oven!

Added link to first page of BCG. Note the frontpage shows Defonten's fan-art, not anything by Bethesda.

And thanks again, 13pm, sorry it took so long to post.

It is Defonten's art, funny that. It's really awesome though, the tones and colors are much more Falloutish than the official FO3 art.

Chinese guns = bad knock offs of Russian guns. Ya.

So saying AK's and chinese guns is saying AK's and plastic, prone-to-jammage Ak's.

Dont Ask.

Either there's something wrong with the translation or the other previewers realized how stupid would Bethesda look if they revealed this and decided not to, because who would want to hurt ol' Beth, eh?

But hey, it wouldn't surprise me if it was true. After all, they'd stop at nothing to make this game as cool as possible.

Actually, super mutants being armed with Chinese AKs has been mentioned in other previews as well.

I KNOW!!! I know how super mutants are going to take over the world!
They are not US muties! They are Chinese muties! That totally explains their Chinese machineguns.

God, I'm so awesome and briliant![/retard]

Second preview that I like- the first one was the Romanian one.

Well, it would provide an alternate explanation to the mass migration of Cali mutants.

And the differing appearance of this stock, with the ogre-like example from the VATS-targeting screenshot having a small, round head, tiny eyes and a grin fit for 1940s racial stereotypes (ignoring the letters AS visible on the fella's belt).

But that would be fairly silly.

Pretty good preview though.

Took me two hundred hours to finish Fallout as well. It's just not roleplaying if the game can be completed in a shorter span of time.

Fallout 1? Seriously? Two hundred? And you mean starting a game and finishing it, not replaying right?

'cause Fallout 1's always been pretty damn short when I play it. Part of why I've actually replayed it a few times. I loved Baldur's Gate 2, but I just never manage to motivate myself to play an 80 hour RPG when I already know how the story pans out. A quick game of Fallout 1 though, that's palatable.

Actually, having a large number of Chinese made Kalashnikovs in the United States makes sense, as the Kalashnikov is probably one of the most imported guns around. Probably even more so than really cheap rifles such as the SKS. Unfortunately though, I believe that its now impossible to import Chinese (ex. Norinco) guns into the United States due to pointless and idiotic regulations. Still..., there are a lot of older ones floating around.

Though, I don't quite understand why the mutants would prefer Chinese manufactured weapons over others, such as Russian made AKs. Not that there's anything wrong with the Chinese built guns, it just seems odd that the mutants would all prefer the same type of gun, made by the same manufacturer. I guess those mutants are really picky about their guns.

When the bombs were flying weren't the Chinese attacking the US? thats why we have Chinese assault rifles in F1 and in F2. I am sure a lot of the captured rifles went into civilian militias or something. How else to explain why they were fairly common in the first two games?

Eh? the only assault rifle F1 & F2 share in common is the AK-112 a.k.a. "Assault Rifle" which was described as "An old military model, out of use around the time of the war." Hell, I can't think of any Chinese weapons specifically in either game.

If those few hours are of good game quality, then that is way better than many half-bad ones. I encourage a step away from oblivion on this one.

gah this newsbit depressed me the most... so far
the way beth prolong gameplay with repetitious elements together with the 20hrs shit ... gah.

i'm starting to become slowly unintrested even by fallout 3 news :(
