S.T.A.L.K.E.R. patched to 1.0004

I'm buying an Asus x1950 pro 256 this saturday. It comes with stalker, so here we go... I'll tell you about MY stutter. (ahah) Also on an E6550 (to be overclock @ at least 25%+), MSI P35 Platinum and Team Elite 2x1024 DDR2@800... HDD sata2 16Mb... Not top notch, but very good for a 17' screen.

25% pffft Morbus, get a decent cooler and you'll push it over 50% without much trouble on a P35 based mobo and with that RAM...

I know, but I still don't have a decent cooler. I'll have to wait a bit... For now, 25% should be fine I think...
 
My apologies if there are any unspoken rules about resurrecting old threads, but this is the latest one I could find that mentioned the original Stalker and the patches. I would have started a new thread but this one has some links to the patches in previous posts so it's more useful..

So.. which patch should I use? I'm going to be installing the game soon and I'm hoping for the best possible experience.

There's the 1.003 patch, the 1.004 patch, and some people here have mentioned user-made patches. I have no idea where to start...

Edit: There also seems to be a 1.0005 patch and a 1.0006 patch.

Uh...Well I would search for a SHOC thread in the General Gaming section instead.

To answer your question, you should play either with 1.004 or 1.005 ( try 1.005, if it's not stable, downgrade to 1.004 ) but MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL ALL THE PREVIOUS PATCHES because each patch only comes with its own set of fixes ( does not contain the previous ones and it does not prevent you from installing it if you haven't installed the previous ones ).

1.006 only adresses a few multiplayer issues so it's not really needed.

I see. I won't be playing the multiplayer so I won't be needing 1.0006 then. (Why so many 0's? They should know 1.0X would work... )

So I need 0.0001, 2, 3, 4, and 5? Guess I better start downloading.

I'm running on Vista. Are there any incompatibility issues? (with any of the patches)
 
Yeah, you need to download all these patches. As regards Vista, I don't know. I'm playing SHOC on Vista too and it plays flawlessly.
 
I couldn't find the 2nd patch at first, and then decided to look elsewhere and found it. It seems rather small in comparison to the others.

Edit: Well so far the game plays fine. It seems rather easy to exploit the enemy AI by hiding in a bush (if several people are after you they will all gather in a spot and you can kill them easy). My only problem with the game is the camera seems to give me a headache. Either too much bobbing when you walk or.. I dunno. It's headache inducing though. I wonder if there's a mod to fix the camera?
