Seems like Jagged Alliance is finnally back...

Not unbelievable.

Jagged Alliance 2 was released in 1999 with new graphics.
Fallout 2 was released with the same graphics of Fallout 1 that was released in 1997.

Video-games technologies changed very fast in the 90s, far more quickly than today, IMO.
(but, in the other hand, it allowed far more genre to exist)

But both aged very well, graphically and gameplay wise.

Tried it on the first island and it seems a HUGE step back from JA2, so far...
(and graphics manage the feat to be worse than WL2)

Still moving in...

well at this point I simply believe that Jagged Alliance is cursed for some reason. How many companies and developers have tried to get a new game out? Most of the time the projects dissapeared or could not even reach to some extend the quality of the previous games.

Quite depressing really. Its like watching some old perverts raping the half decayed dead body of a former beatifull and popular cheerleader over and over again that you used to date with in high-school when she was still alive.

I don't understand how these games have worse graphics than games 2 years ago but double the system requirements.

You mean 15 years before ? JA2 graphics are far better.

Anyway, it really feels like the game is still in early access.

So far, the part that disapoint me the most is the AI.
At one point, you are on a farm and are supposed to defend the farmers from an attack.
Except that the guys who attacks have a behavior that is the same as every other ennemies. They just spawn on the map and stay in position until you come to get them. And when you get them, there is nobody coming to help them. Where is all the stress of avoiding to attract attention ? Where is the strategy ? Currently, it doesn't prevent me from trying further, but they crippled a lot of what made a JA game by sucking within that area.

Also, if i am not wrong, you don't have a navigator to go through all those websites and e-mails.
There is also far less voices than JA2, but i take that this remake is a cheap project.

I guess they tried and didn't have enough fund or efficient enough management to make things more appealing.

Sucks to hear that it sucked. Im just gonna throw it out there again Back In Action is a solid title even if it isn't turn based. It sucked when it first came out too so maybe this title will benefit from a patching or 12.

Yep. They don't even have attachments, ammo types or doors. There's a promise to deliver some of these features later on as a free DLC, but I'm not sure. Flashback is doing pretty poor sale-wise and the reviews are upsetting.

Here's to hope that a dedicated modding team will make use of what they've got and recreate JA2 1.13.

Seems that the AI gets better on second Island. The enemies actually work together to attack you, instead of just idling before you kill them. The first Island was probably some sort of in-universe tutorial.

Anyway, the game is still very ugly. I really don't undertand why they had to restart everything on a new engine. If they used the JA2 engine/source code, they would have all the graphics/mechanics ready and would have focused on the maps and the story. Currently it seem they wasted so much time in re-doing things that were already there previously, while missing some of them, for a thing that isn't much pretty/practical/enjoyable.

What's the point in making it 3D anyway ? Those who don't like isometric won't play it anyway.

This isn't probably one of the most important feature of the game, but in JA2, i was frustrated that you couldn't actually see the militia defend the cities if you haven't at least a merc inside the town. Because of that, i did the best i could to have at least a mercenary in each controlled area, then, when it wasn't possible a merc in each set of areas so i could deploy him when the enemies cames so i could watch my militia defend the area. At that time, i wished that they could allow you to see militia fighting even without merc around. In JA:F, you can't see the militia fighting even if you have merc on the map. There is the unseen militia fight first, and then, if they lost, you enter in actual combat mode with your mercs. They did exactly the opposite of what i wanted for that specific feature.

Sure, once again, it might not be the most important feature, but it give me mores reasons to replay JA2. (at least, to want to replay it. I have a list of games i never play that i should play first)
