First time out of the vault
The other day I stood on my goddamn F2 Cd! I have previously copied the entire contents onto my computer (dont ask why, I dont know!) and so I have everything I need to play the game, but of course I get told I need the cd to play! Is there any way to get around this? I know you can emulate the cd drive or use a backup copy with the right kind of LEGAL programs but my CDRW is seriously messed up and hasnt worked for ages!
And so to the point of this post... Please, if there is anybody who can help me... I'm so bored of continually playing F1! (I had the collectors edition and you dont need the cd for that!).
Cheers, Fallz :!:

If you copied the entire contents of the cd (ie, full install) it wouldn't ask you for the cd.

Actually, it would. :P
Well not really...the only FO game that requires the cd even with the full install is FOT and there is even a way around that(see my post in the FOT forum)so TECHNICALLY none of the fallout games NEED the cd in if you do the full install...

I think he meant that he copied the contents of the CD to disk manually, not that he did the "homongous" (or whatever it is called) install.

Then why is my FO2 Full Installation asking for the CD to be in the drive?
If you have installed it fully, the game may not technically need the CD, but will still ask for it.

I meant humungous install, I swear . I just realized that I moved these to the wrong forum as well. Note to self: drink more coffee in the morning.

Well, if he did copy the entire contents of the CD instead of installing there's probably a way to create a virtual drive with the folder, I have no idea how though. Look through the *.ini files, you might be able to simply change the paths from your cd drive to the fallout folder and run the installer that way.

no, no, no, it will definatly NOT ask you for the CD if you did a humongous install, no, it will not, Ive never even payed fallout with the CD in the drive, except if its not right after I reinstalled it.

People, people, calm down.

Fallz, uhm....if you manually copied the CD, you might want to try diving into the config file (with notepad) and changed the noted directories from D: into wherever you placed the game.

And if that doesnt work you could always download a cd rip prog and rip those files into a disk image. I have never actually tried it but i hear it can be done.

You can google some software that lets emulates the CD-ROM drive. Or you can drop the whole F2 nonsense and masturbate to some lesbian porn.

P.S. What kind of a moron steps on his F2 CD?

Because you didn`t do the Humoungous install maybe?
Yes, I did. I just double checked. Humongous install will still ask you for the CD. At least it will with the UK version (which is my version), and I'm not sure about Fallout 1, but we're not talking about fallout 1.

I repeat: http://www.gamecopyworld.com/
Download a no-cd crack, if you did the humongous install, and otherwise: edit the fallout2.cfg file. If you don't know how to do that, ask.

I can confirm this. The UK version of FO2 asks fro the CD to be in the drive regardless of which installation. FO1 does not need the CD if you did a humongous installation.
In the fallout2.cfg file, it has a line saying (something like):
CDlock=D:\cdlock.dat
So, the UK version does need the CD. I can't find the file on the CD tho', and I assume it is encrypted somehow.

Get the FO2 CD image from the "usual sources". Use http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/portal/portal.php to mount the image to a virtual drive. Do a minimum install (you don't really need two copies of master.dat on your hard drive) from the virtual drive. Enjoy. I don't think they used copy protection on Fallout back in '97.

Or you could make it into an image yourself using Nero burning rom without actully burning it then using daemon tools to create a virtual drive.
