Sniper and Leader: guide, questions, discussion.

hey great thread, interesting to read :)
i somehow missed fallout tactics, dunno why, but i loved fallout 1 and 2

so i think about a sniper as main ...
reading here helped a lot, but
power armor give +1 str, advanced +2 str ? (not sure)
so maybe 4 str, i see most guns need 5, but not all, i do not know when u can get a power armour, i think something later on
btw i definitly want to go small guns and doctor (no energy with main), still not sure about 3rd
gifted and kamikaze
so my question is again, cha 8 for DF (so the 10 needed perks at 25?)
best i can imagine is 4,10,2,8,7,10,6 or 4,9,2,8,8,10,6
or less cha (need lvl 27 then)
cha 4 ( for 5,10,2,4,10,10,6) or
cha 2 ( for 5,10,2,2,10,10,8)
not sure about this ranks, if i really need them. ok some better recruits later, but does that really hurt ? if there is no disadvantage in skilling them
or anything missed ?
what would u take if not 8 cha for DF (not really happy with the other stats then)
maybe 4 str for 9 luck, or 9 int and 10 luck (8int 5str..)?
4% crit more at all then ...

still thinking about the 3rd tag (so the skillpoints needed at the end)
how many books will i find? think it will vary
small gun books, only for main char or are there enough to wait skilling the other recruits ?
learnig science from books ..
maybe steal, but only worth to me if i can get books there ...
doctor to ~150 ?
science after books ~150 ?
small guns all other points after books
first aid only books
outdoorsman/pilot?/repair? - not sure if main or another soldier
lockpick/traps/barter another guy
so maybe less int ? or is more science/doc worth it ?
did i miss something ?

another thing
would i get more xp doing some missons or random encs only with the main char or does it not matter how many soldiers are in the squad ?
if they get the xp anyway in the bunker ..

last thing, what are the differents in game difficulty ?
i think about playing hard ...

For a sniper all the weapons you'll want to use are min strength 5 at least. Power armour doesn't become available until 2/3rds of the way through the campaign and relying on drugs can be dangerous to your character's health.

There's a couple of cheat characters available at higher levels but other than them any recruit you build up from the start can be as good or better than some of the higher ranked recruits. It's up to you go strong squad or strong pc.

Useful books are rather rare, saving the skill points for the main character is one thing but there's not enough books to do that with the recruits. There aren't any books to boost the Doctor skill. Scout books can be saved for the pc or a recruit (like farsight), outdoorsman is a fairly useless skill.

Experience points for kills and completing objectives are given equally to all team mates. It doesn't matter how many are in your squad at the time they'll all earn the same amount. The only extra experience to be earnt is from using other skills.

The most immediate effect of the different difficulties is a +/- 10% chance to hit per level. If you are playing at a harder difficulty it really becomes important to raise your skill points as high as you can afford.

ah tanks a lot :)
so i will try if stealing is rewarded with extra xp or not .. else going science to save some points there

the only really question which stands is the charisma and/or maybe int against luck

edit: ok thoght once more and i will try
5,9,2,8,7,10,6 with DF .. so more perks
does luck effects anything else then chance to crit ? so 1 more crit is as good as 5 luck ...
and with 7 int i think i will have enough skill points (science 3rd tag)
so only 1 action boy for 3 aimed shots with a leader near
but only 9 per .. argh

ok it is the same like WVr already said, but i miss sniper in your build for the 2 virtually per .. hm lvl 27, so we need lots of xp

hm imagine u take +1per by perk very late in the game after taking DF(for 1 agi) would the 1 point stay for agi or change to per ?

Well, Sniper perk is not about "two virtual perception"; to get that, you take Sharpshooter (i take it too). :)

I believe that getting Gain_Perception will not "shift" bonus to a stat from DF. I believe that DF perk adds +1 to higher stat permanently, so if you want, save any perk to have two "perk-points" at lvl 12, then get Gain_Perception, then get DF at lvl 14.

No one probably reads this anymore but...here is my advice for snipers.

Personally, I would recommend sticking with Farsight and putting points into small guns and using the 7.62 Sniper Rifle, NOT energy weapons. Energy weapons are effective against robots, but the problem I think with using energy weapons against the robots is that you cannot do aimed shots because (and correct me if I'm wrong) there are no energy weapons with aimed shot available. The picture of the laser rifle may have a picture of rifle with a scope on it, but you cannot do aimed shots with it.

If you use the 7.62 Sniper rifle, you can do aimed shots which is really nice and effective against robots tactically, not damage wise. With the sniper rifle, aimed shots, high small guns skill, and improved critical perk, you can often blind, knock out, or cripple all enemies, including the robots. I had no trouble with the robots because my sniper (Farsight) would always aim for the eyes and that would either blind the robots making them miss 95% of the time or they were knocked out for 5-7 rounds, or I aimed for their left arm crippling the robot so that they could not use their guns.

Hope that helps.

Really? Wow, do I feel stupid. I could have killed robots much faster. However, whenever I gave someone like Farsight the laser rifle, I didn't see that button where you can click to activate aimed shots. Do you need a special perk or something? I'll have to go back and check tonight.

Oh well, I just beat the game yesterday. I don't think I will be playing it over again.

BTW...what is the general attitude towards Fallout Tactics on these boards? I understand it to be a hostile one, which I don't understand because I really enjoyed this game. It's definitely more sci-fi/post apoc. but it has the spirit of Fallout underneath it. I understand it's not Fallout, which is why they didn't call it Fallout 3 like Bethesda is doing. It was a great game though.
