So, how good are the other 2 Matrix films?

PLEASE NO UNMARKED SPOILERS IN THIS TOPIC THANKS!!!!!

So I just finished watching The Matrix and I thought that it was a really great movie! It was emotional, had a good story, and good action...I also really liked Neo...he was an awesome protagonist...

I was wondering about checking out the other 2 films but they have a bad rep around the internet....

So, are they really that bad? Is the story as good as the first one?

Just looking for some info here because the NMA is a trustworthy community..

I haven't seen either of the last two for a good 2 years, but if I recall correctly, Matrix 2 has all the cool special effects with none of the cool plot, and 3 has nothing of value. The slow parts of 2 are twice as unbearable as the slow parts of 1, and there are nothing but slow parts in 3. The cool parts in 3 are lamer than the lame parts of 1. If I were you I'd see the second one, and not see the third unless you are liking the plot of the series.

They both suck huge donkeyballs.

The second one has some decent action, although rewatching it now is just facepalm-inducing due to the CGI aging really, really badly.

They both suffer from sequelitis, specifically the "Missing the Point" strain. The story took the backseat (or was bound, gagged and tossed into the trunk) and the special effects took the wheel and careened right into a fucking Starbucks.

Also [spoiler:b6c42df68c]Neo is Techno-Jesus. That's all you need to know, all you would have gotten from the sequels, and you should have known this even without watching them.[/spoiler:b6c42df68c]

I agree with this, though I'd add that the first film, watchable as it is, didn't have much of a cool plot either.

It all went downhill when he started wearing that stupid martial arts coat thingy and got rid of the badass trench coat, combat boots and guns.

I really liked the 2nd one until the ending. That's (IMO) when the plot went ot shit. 2nd one is worth watching for the Highway chase scene. The 3rd one was OK. I guess it's worth renting if you want to see how the story ends (thats why I rented it).

I liked Reloaded a lot as well. It was a great action movie. The ending was tied to the 3d one so I thought I'd make up my mind completely after I see it. It's hard to explain but basically, the 3d was going to make it a great movie or break it. Unfortunately, it did the latter. It sucked a LOT and dragged Reloaded down with it.

The first big fight where Neo fights with the pole always looked terrible.

I'd say that it's really the only good part of the movie, though Neo fighting all of the people using a variety of melee weapons was decent aswell.

I'd say that neither the second nor the third are particularly worth your time, they are both bad with the third one lacking the only redeeming quality of the second one, a handful of good action scenes. The third movie also suffers from beating the audience over the head with what/who Neo is but has a very amusing DBZ fight at the end, though more face palm inducing and less so-bad-it's-goodness.

All three are poor...

I agree. I just re-watched the first one two days ago, and while I remembered it as being really cool, it was actually just really silly. The trenchcoats and sunglasses and goofy kung fu fights, it's all just too much.

The sequels are worse, though. Still, if you have some time to spare, you might as well watch them, to see how it all ends (you know you want to).

If I were you, I would watch Blade Runner, A Scanner Darkly, and Brazil.

And just rename them "Matrix 1,2,3.

. . . and Dark City (1996).

And, if you ilke Dark City, follow it with Possible Worlds (2002, I beleive), and Dark Man . . . Err, the last one has no baring on the Matrix at all, it's just cool.

Though, if you're in it just for the Internet is the World references, I recommend the television series Reboot (CGI from 1994, baby).

I know I watched the three Matrix's, but outside of the first, I can't recall what the other two are about. I can't even recall what differentiates them nor, aside from the aforementioned highway chase is memorable.

. . . I don't even remember why people thought the Matrix was good, aside from the hope that there's something "better" and that life is utterly pointless for those uninitiated into the "better" . . .

And now a word from our sponsors . . . Rant: It'll swarm' you g-g-R-eat.

here is how the matrix movies work:

1)

really cool psycho stuff happens, keanu reeves kicks ass at the end, dies, comes back alive

2)

all action, little bit of plot, explores the world of the matrix a little bit

3)

the "exposition" episode that explains the previous 2 movies. the ending is too fantastical and unbelieveable for most people.

No, it reeks of deus ex machina "I Wonder if that was a pun intentionally put into the plot by the writers for lulz", and is horribly written. The last film took the audience out of the film and did nothing but spoon-feed existentialism vicariously rather than express any ideas in a creative way.

Matrix itself is a huge implied facepalm...

Well, 2 and 3 are standard American action flicks. Not good not bad. But tastes differ, although people saying they suck have all the reasone to say that for most any action flick released since then.

I liked them all.

The first one was the best. 2 & 3 were good too imo but the first one pushed the expectations of most people so high, that they would have been disappointed even if neo turned out to be jesus, jumped out of the screen and turned their drinks into wine.

And I would recommend the Animatrix.
