So, uh, did anyone like it?

Played it for 6 hours, got bored to tears and uninstalled it. Now i got back to playing Arcanum and i have to say, it's such a fresh breath of air compared to F3.

I will try it again only after it recieves some love from the modding community.

I played it a bit longer, but got bored of it too. I still have it installed, but when I read your comment I'm thinking about uninstalling it, to save some space for other games.

I'd give it a 6.5 / 10, basically. Somewhat fun, but not good enough to replace Little Big Planet's perpetual spot in my PS3 right now.

Any fans of the original games find Fallout 3 an enjoyable and genuinely fun sequel? After waiting a decade, I really found it a fine game. In fact, when I first got the game I couldn't believe I was actually holding it in my hands. It was that surreal.

I've posted this in numerous threads but haven't exactly gotten a response. I feel as if I'm the only "Fallout vet" who wasn't really disappointed. I really did have fun with it, and I'm on my 2nd playthrough now.

Am I alone? Am I "crazy"? Am I *insert adjective here*?

This isn't the correct forum to ask that. I loved the game, however this section could be called the "We hate Fallout 3" club.

I'm completely enjoying it for now (around 40hours of pure fun). But I haven't even started the main quest, and if it is as bad as Oblivion, I think i'll stay with the side quests and free roam :p

And it has some flaws of course, but this is still my best game experience since a long time (since morrowind maybe ?)

And if you are wondering, I really enjoyed fallout1 and fallout2 ten years ago, they are among my favourite games with planescape torment, kotor, baldur's gate, vampire bloodlines, arcanum, deus ex, etc ... so yes I can clearly see the flaws in FO3 and how much better it could be (mods will help) but still, is is ont of he best game to come since a long time, and a good step in the right direction in order to stop the awful trends in the past years games and to slowly get back to interesting gaming. (for example, oblivion was worse than morrowind wich was worse than daggerfall, but fallout3 is much better than oblivion, and maybe better than morrowind, so I'm hoping beth is learning some things and will have a TES5 and fallout4 even better)

NMA is tsundere for Fallout 3.

That said, I'm glad I was proven wrong, it's a great game. Not perfect, and I still want a Brahmin mount, but it's fun.

It's a fun game. There are a lot of annoyances... weapons and armor (especially helmets) break way too quickly, the minigames are fun for a little while but are used too much, the ending sucks majorly, there isn't a big enough variety of weapons, and SPECIAL stats don't seem to matter that much. I also wish VATS were a true turn-based option - not required, but an option where you and all your enemies get turns to attack. Basically, just like the old games. It wouldn't be required but right now it's too much like bullet time from Max Payne. Max Payne's bullet time made you invincible while you were in it, just like VATS.

Thing is, though, while I agree with many of the criticisms people here have made of FO3, I still think you guys are overreacting. People here seem like they were already certain they would hate the game the moment they heard Bethesda was doing it, and now that it's out, every little problem gets blown out of proportion. FO1 and FO2 had their share of problems too... a huge number of them, in fact. But they were still good games.

As far as how well FO3 stays true to FO1/2, I guess it's not really outstanding in that regard. The art direction in FO3 is great - I think they really nailed the post-apocalyptic atmosphere and did a wonderful job of translating the low-resolution, 2D world of FO2 to a big, interactive 3D one. However, there are just too many traces of Oblivion in it. Character animations are bad, AI pathfinding is bad, Fast Travel isn't nearly as fun as FO1/2's travel system with their random encounters, and I don't think there's enough variety in the enemies (same with the weapons, as I mentioned earlier).

As a Fallout sequel, it gets it half right. It has the atmosphere and some of the tongue-in-cheek humor, but it lacks the tactical combat and much of the "soul," if you know what I mean. As a game itself, it's great. I've been enjoying it a lot.

The biggest thing I hate about the game is the ending. Total crap. I've never seen a worse ending in any game.

It needs a patch for the major bugs tho

But it doesn't matter, you'll give it a 10/10 probably

What, because he doesn't hate the game he gives it a 10/10?

I see it as an above average game. It certainly has its flaws but it doesn't fit with either of the extremes I've seen here or at many review sites. Mainstream reviewers are giving it 9.5-10 out of ten, while people here seem to hate its guts for what I believe are mostly emotional reasons ("OMG Bethsoft raped my favorite game series!!!!"). Overall, though? Better than Oblivion, to be sure. Better than most recent games. But not masterful like the old Fallout games. I don't think people are going to still be playing Fallout 3 in 10+ years like they're doing with FO1/2. It just seems like few people are able to see it for what it is - a pretty decent CRPG.

I recognize that Bethesda made a serious attempt to create a true sequel to the Fallout series. It's not quite as good - partly due to conscious design decisions which I don't like, partly due to bad scriptwriting - and it goes without saying that slapping the name "Fallout" on a product raises the bar a lot - but I certainly don't regret having paid for the game. There's a lot of fun to be had... if one doesn't try to think too much.

Fuck Bethsoft, Fuck them up their stupid arseholes.

Relax...no one forces you to play it. I'm sure you find tons of great games suited for your pleasure.

Bethesda just wants your money and gives a shit about anyone or Fallout at all. And they have found a way how to bind a Fallout similar, postnuclear scenario into their Oblivion virus-engine to deceive our minds and makes us think, its a great Game.

Well, I fell for it and now I'm one of these fucktards who help them dominate mankind while raping the holy name "Fallout".

I played it much the same way and my love for it died quickly after getting in depth into the main quest. But that being said I'm looking forward to my next build and and jumping back in to try the nuetral path. I think that will be more challenging to play than pure good/evil. And reading your game list reminded me of a ton of great games I haven't played in a long time...

yeah.. i succumbed to buying it.

i bought it, because i expected a little bit of rpg for those cold winter nights. got started a week ago and never got further than leaving the fault. baseball-bashed my way out, got slight motion sickness from the lackluster 3d enviroment and lost interest quite fast.

collecting dust until some great modders out there do something with it.

i sure hope i didn't buy it, because it says "fallout 3" on the cover, because then beth's marketing strategy would have payed off.

Speaking of motion sickness that slight movement of the PIPBoy3000 is really disorientating when I'm overtired. My body can't decide if the screen is swaying because it's supposed to be or because I'm supposed to be passing out from exhaustion. That's usually my cue to call it a night :P

FO3 is kind of a likeable game. There is definitely something to it that makes the many people to enjoy it, and I only recently figured out what it's called - arcade fun. FO3 is basically an arcade-style shooter - point and click - the closest thing to compare it to would be Alien Shooter 2. No good story, no sensible dialogue, some RPG elements and hours of mouse-clicking fun. A perfect game to kill a couple of hours. Anyone who'd expect an involving RPG with a story that makes sense (like me) would be greatly disappointed though.

Overall I liked it. I would rate it 7/10 on its own. As a Fallout, I give it about 3/10.

Graphics & Sound are both 10/10

The amazing decapitating bullets, overused rag-doll physics for death animations, and inconsistencies drop my "Immersion" factor to about a 2/10.

All of the hardcore RPG elements from Fallout 1 and 2 are mostly missing. You can't really beat the game as a complete pacifist. Also, I now have no fear of Super Mutants. That really upset me. That being said I give it a 3/10 on "Fallout Factor"

This is generally how I feel. I'd be FAR more receptive of the game if Bethesda had just set out to make a general sandbox post-apoc game that had a similar setting to Fallout. But every time I play it as a "Fallout" game I get extremely dissapointed, because it's basically whatever game they wanted to make with a bunch of Fallout concepts and lore shoehorned into it.

I've got mine on hold until the modding scene comes up with additional fixes for the gameplay.
